It is amazing the aircraft the Russians can build. They easily keep up with us when it comes to aircraft and in some ways even pass us with the things they can do. Most impressive indeed.

I'd have to say I disagree. I'd make the argument all of our branches of military outperform those of the Russians. Even their espionage is lacking after that huge roundup...when's the last time you heard of U.S. spies being caught?

I didn't see anything too high risk in the video (relatively speaking of course), just alot of stalls.

Here we go:

I should have clarified. I meant just in aircraft, not in overall military operations and/or espionage tactics. Their jets easily compete with ours performance wise, outside of our stealth capable aircraft. The new MiG-35 is an amazing aircraft right up there with the F-35.

This is an Su-30MKI. Sukhoi aircraft have been doing manuevers like this since the SU-27. The F22 is the first aircraft we've built that is anything near this manueverable.

Are they better? Not saying that. Just admiring the talent of a fellow pilot myself.

I think the bulk of this video shows how this jet is able to continue flight while engaging in "flat spins" where there is no air coming over the wings which keeps aircraft flying. To keep the aircraft under control in a flat spin requires extreme knowledge and skill as 'stalling' is a very real common occurance when in a flat spin.

None of those maneuvers would be possible/recoverable without the use of vectored thrust and those canards.

They've definitely come a long way from just copying Western designs exactly (aka B-29 and the TU-4).
