Congrats on your permit -- Good Luck with deciding what to carry!
I am a supporter of a citizen's right to carry. I have my opinions, preferences and suggestions on the matter, but I won't go into all of that here. Just a couple of points that I'd like to make;
Concealed is the operative word - Never advertise that you are carrying. In any public environment or a potential hostile situation, assume that the assailant(s) have already scanned the crowd and will target the person they know is armed. If they neutralize you, the unarmed person(s) around you won't stand a chance...
Concealment can be accomplished in many different ways - but can you get to your weapon in a split-second? Warm weather presents the obvious hurdles of concealing your weapon, while cool weather is great for concealed carry, but can also make it difficult to access the weapon from under a sweatshirt or heavy jacket. Become accustomed to carrying and keeping your weapon concealed but readily accessible. You should also get used to carrying a spare magazine. Be prepared to stay in the fight.
While you're at the range honing your marksmanship skills, mix in some practice-time drawing the weapon from your preferred carry position. Perform a series of reloads. "Muscle memory" is just that - you'll eventually be doing it without having to think of every detail!
I came across this quote a while back. I have it posted at my desk and I read it on a daily basis;
"In ten years, nobody will remember the details of caliber, stance or tactics. They will only remember who lived."
Just my two cents - Stay Safe!
