I am have a choice between 2 sets of fivers. I am thinking of a 5er of Cohiba and Partagas. Is there a better way to go for someone just venturing into this territory? Are their flavor profiles different enough?

Thinking of PSD#4 or PSD#5

and Cohiba Magicos Maduro or Cohiba Genios Maduro?

I am open to other suggestions in the same "range."

Thanks!

I'm with Dan on this one, either the Partagas Serie P No. 2 or the Partagas Serie D No. 4! :cbig:

The PSD #5 over the #4 and the Genio over the Magico.

Really no bad choices here.

Talk to your merchant and ask him what he recommends based upon what is smoking well from his humidor, right now. Ask him to send pictures and box codes, as well.

Cheers

First off, I am not a fan of any Cohiba Maduros. I would personally try one of their classics (Lancero, Robusto, Esplendido, etc.) or their Siglo line (Siglo 3 or higher).

As far as the Partagas, your choices are EL versus a regular production. If you are looking for an introduction, ELs may not be the best choice as far as "similarities" to the rest of the marca. Try the PSD 4 or PSP2.

But if you can swing it, get the PSD 5 and hold onto them for a bit :) Good luck in your decision, but you cant go wrong either way.

I do like the maduro line. No they don't taste the same as the rest of the cohiba line but that's not necessarily a bad thing, just different. Of the maduro's I like the Genios the best with the secretos second.

Partigas - go for the 4's or if you want something smaller try the shorts.

Pulled the trigger and went with PSD#4s and Cohiba Robusto.

Can't go wrong with classics and sometimes issues are decided by fiscal priorities. :)

Thanks for all the feedback.

So, how long do I have to keep my paws off them, or should I smoke one of each to establish baseline?

Should I keep the sticks in a seperate box from other smokes?

I let them rest for a couple of weeks after arrival. As far as keeping them separate, that is all personal preference. Enjoy :)

Good choice, that is what I would have went with. Yes, let them rest if you can, age really does magical things. That is my problem, I can't keep my hands off, guess cause I smoke too much.

You can smoke one now, then a year later, then 3 years, and so one, if you want. that is always my intent when I buy a box.

Let them rest a couple weeks, then enjoy a D4. IMHO, Cohibas need at least 2-3 years to be at their best. OF course you'll want to smoke one for "research purposes".:rolling:
