So I recently got into the cigar world and thought I would only have a few sticks around, you know, maybe, MAYBE over five. The longer I stayed in this dark world, the more I acquired. It started with a few fivers. "I'll never smoke all these!" I thought. Then came my thread in the Trading Zone. "Only take a an offer or two. Maybe two." Well now I'm in deep and my small Tupperdor just isn't good enough.

So my questions to my BOTL's are what would be a good starter humidor, humidification device, and hygrometer? Where can I find the best prices?

Get yourself a Coleman cooler and Heartfelt beads .... that would be my first choice if I could do it all over again :cbig:

I would get beads and a cooler. My theory with humidors (sans unlimited budget):
-If you're going to get one, get a good one. Most the humidors you see online (Cigars International, Cheap Humidors, etc) are made by one company: Quality Importers. They are made in China and not the greatest. Get a real one either from Ed at Waxing Moon, an Altadis promo, an Aristocrat, Vanderburgh and be done with it for good.
-Everything else should be in coolers or Vinotemps (depending on if you need the temperature). Humidors aren't economical and most BOTLs on the forums get to the point where "empty" is rarely a word used.

Things not to do:
-Don't get a cheap small humidor, they are P.O.S.
-Don't rush seasoning

I use beads. I've gotten them from three places: Heartfelt and others - I can't say that Heartfelts are working any better than the others. I've never used gel, but have heard plenty of horror stories. Bovedás are great, but not economical. If you are going to anything in the 1000+ range, get an Accumonitor.

As for hygrometers, try this.

Remember that the cooler is going to provide the best seal, period.

I would go with the suggestions of the others in the thread. What starts out innocent enough will one day turn into a cabinet or cooler. It's just best you admit it to yourself now rather than later.

Put in a walk-in if you own. If you rent, buy. It does not go away, it just gets worse daily.

So a Coleman cooler, digital hygrometer, and Heartfelt beads. I've already done the math so it would be around the 120$ mark. Doable since this would be a long term investment. Good thing I don't have a wife that'll put me down like some of you :skew: Just kidding fellas.

I dream of making a mancave when I buy a house. One of these days.....

I was in your boat a couple of months ago. I thought about getting a small desk top humidor, but as I got more and more sticks rather quickly, I decided to go with a cooler. Less than two months later now, and I am already trying to figure out what cooler I'm getting next and how to improve on it. With this hobby, it is pointless to "start small" because you WILL keep buying sticks, and then you'll buy boxes, and then you'll buy multiple boxes a week, and you have to have somewhere to put it all.

Go with a cooler. I have a 50 qt, but my next one will be a 150 qt.

I started with a 50 count desk top my Dad passed down to me. That was filled quickly. Then, I bought a 150 count. Long story short, I have a 400 count cabinet now too.
