lackluster marcas?

As a general rule in my experience, Cuban tobacco exhibits a typical semi-sweet, toasted tobacco flavor. Of course there are differences across the marcas as well as flavor variation within a marca, and sometimes even variation within a box. However, there have been two specific marcas that don't seem to share anything in common with the flavor profiles of their sister marcas. For me, these have been La Gloria Cubana and San Cristobal de la Habana.

I have had multiple vitolas from each (e.g. Medaille d'or No. 2, Tainos, El Principe, La Fuerza) and they just don't do it for me. By the way, I never judge a vitola based on one example. I haven't had several of each, but I have had more than 1 stick of each.

My questions are as follows:

1. Do you find LGC and SCDLH to be noticeably different from other CC marcas? Or have I had bad examples of these marcas?

2. Are there marcas for you that don't share much in common with the rest of the bunch?

LGC & SCDH have their own distinctive flavor. Neither are a favorite of mine, but their not bad either. All a matter of personal taste. Brands that really don't do it for me are Hoyo & Punch.

Punch, Hoyo, LGC. They don't do it for me across the board.

Love the lgc. The SCDH meh. Vegueros are unique.

Hmmm. . .for me it is RA and Cuaba that do not need to grace my humidor.

Cuaba line dosen't do much for me either except for the Salamones.

I will say I couldn't disagree more and based on your basing your view of the LGC on the #2 and the Tainos, I will say you need to expand your smoking experiences before forming opinions. Same goes for the SCdLH.

This is more of the response I was hoping for. Not that there was anything wrong with others' opinions, but I was wondering if it was a fair shot for the marcas.

Of course I wouldn't turn down other LGCs or SCDLHs but responses here could have affected my urgency to try others. I will give them another shot in the future.

The sticks you need to try from LGC are the #3. Many LGC smokers myself included love both of these. The #3 has a bit more kick, but I prefer the #4. It has a lot of grassy notes and floral. Both sticks need to be sipped though and given Habanos shifting production to mainly large rg cigars it was not a huge surprise to tainos production upped and the #3 discontinued. Grab a box of #4 if you don't like them I will buy them. Having smoked boxes of Tainos they are likely the most inconsistent stick I have found.

As for SCdLH. You need to try the La Punta. Many people I know who have been smoking Habanos for 6+years love the Officios. I am not a fan, but everyone is different. As to the Principe, I have had some great ones but recently had a box from 08 that was not so great. I would not take them over a party short, but I would not write them off yet.

As with everything time changes things. My pallet is very different from 3 years ago when I got into habanos. I was big on Partagas, Boliviar. Now H.Upmann is far and away my favorite line. I have majority of their sticks. Same thing with LGC. When I first started out I hated the line. Now I keep them in regular rotation and love #4.

Edit forgot to mention. Most people would argue for main line production stuff Cuaba is likely the least Habanos stick. Largely I guess I would agree, outside the Cohiba Maduros. I still enjoy some Cuabas though. Think the exclusivo is not to bad.
