With Jims (Azcigarnut) poll, these two bad boys are duking it out. I would like to know, for thoese of you that have been fortunate enough to smoke one, what was the flavor profile you experienced. If you've only had one or both, please let your taste buds do the talking!

Both are top notch cigars IMO.

The Esplindido has a nice creamy coffee flavors to it and the Sir Winston has a toasty, honey profile.

The Sir Winston is my least favorite H. Upmann. The '08 Cohiba Esplendido is one of the finest Julieta #2 I have ever smoked.
This is like comparing apples to really good apples.

Don't like the esple as I said in the other poll. I bought a box of CoLa instead and believe I made the right choice. Nothing about the Esple made me stop and just stare at the stick with that I get it moment. Maybe I had a few off ones? Everytime I light up a CoLa I just love it.

In contrast I found the Sir Winnie extremely complex. The opening is spice and leather, the middle has a Connie 1 like sweetness, with some of the Upmann #2 nutty flavor, the ending has a nutty coffee profile.

Having smoked a couple of all the big sticks to try to find my favorite, the Sir Winnie won. Its very complex. Obviously though individual pallet plays a factor. The Sir Winnie to me combines the best of Upmann in one stick giving you the spice and leather followed by the Connie 1 profile, followed by the #2 profile. I am sure it helps my opinion that the Connie 1 &#2 are my two favorite Upmanns.

Hope this helps to explain the Upmann side a little.

Well, everyone has their own likes and dislikes, so I'm certainly not going to tell you that you are wrong, but you are the first person I have ever encountered that puts the Sir Winnie at the bottom of the Upmann line. To me the Sir Winston is the quintessential cuban cigar. Not even taking into account the other cigars in the line, I'm surprised you find the Monarch to be a superior cigar to the Sir Winston. I've always found the Monarch to be enjoyable, but somewhat muddled with it's flavor profile, whereas the Sir Winston is incredibly complex and flavorful. But to each his own I guess.

Not taking anything away from the Esplendido, I find it to be a great cigar, but to me it is my third favorite churchill. The RyJ Churchill is my second favorite.

I like them both with age....if I were offered a 15 year old example of one or the other, it would be a very tough choice. If they were both fresh, on the other hand, I would likely opt for something else entirely.

So, how old do these need to be before you stop turning them down, and is recent production more approachable younger like many other marcas/vitolas?

I haven't been too impressed with the young Sir Winstons, but still think they will age into a wonderful cigar. So I don't think the newer SWs are more approachable like some recent marcas/votolas have been.

2008 was the first time I can remember thinking that the Esplendidos were better fresh than they had been in previous years...but it is still relative, and I still don't care too much for Esplendidos without some significant age on them. Now, the '08 CoRos on the other hand....

Tough. Very tough. I don't think I could decide if you offered me a choice of both. Probably the Sir Winne because chances are the Espl is a fake.
