Strange... It was perfect construction pre-light yet it just burst apart on me while smoking less than half way through.

Was a CAO Gold Maduro, stored at 70/70. I got a 250 count humidor with maybe 130-150 cigars in there. I use 65% humidity beads in it and twice as many since I'm storing a good amount of cigars. Its always rock solid between 68% and 70%.

I'm not sure if it was caused by the 50 degree temperatures outside. It seemed to burst near the flame. Maybe was due to hot temperatures of the flame and cold temperatures outside which chilled the wrapper?

Was odd.

Hugely disappointed though. My 2nd cigar in 2 days after 6 weeks without a cigar. The Padron 2000 was great yesterday though.

Any ideas?

High RH outside combined with the heat of the cherry can cause this. Maybe dry-boxing the stick you want to smoke for a day would help?

The temperature and humidity probably had a lot to do with it. How fast were you smoking? Was it windy? If the stick was burning pretty hot that would help to compound issues in a hurry I think. I've had sticks split on me before, which is frustrating, but usually they're still smokeable.

I do smoke a bit faster than the average person. Was chilly out but not windy.

Maybe try smoking a little slower next time. I usually keep a pretty good rhythm while smoking, but when it's cold I've been known to get carried away trying to keep warm and next thing I know, I've split my cigar.
