Finally I had my first Cohiba!

Good day, good people...

*Notching my belt, and pulling up my pants* I had my first Cohiba:cbig:this past weekend :yes: and it was delicious. I grab it in a sampler I purchased a while ago. I had it marinating for a few months. *I know to some of you it's like whoop de doo* .....but um....to me it felt good, you know that feeling you get when your holding a quality stick one you were saving for that certain moment. Well that was how it was for me....I played my greatest hit's, I drank my top shelf liquor, pulled out my padron ashtray, used my trusty ol colibri & cut with my razor sharp Xikar! *you get my point* I loved it, so this means I have to get a few more. I have a question though any other sticks that you can think of have a similar taste to these? Just wanted to share my experience, Thanks for reading....

I enjoy many non-Cubans with Cuban names. I do enjoy the Romeo y Julieta non-Cuban cigars. I have only had 1 non-Cuban Cohiba and it was enjoyable. Partagas also has some nice non-Cubans.

I understand the dominican puros from Cohiba can be quite enjoyable. Obviously they'll be different than the ISOM brand, but still can be enjoyable. Once again, smoke what you like.

Yeah. And again I'm not at all saying they are by any means BETTER than their Cuban counterparts, but I do find them to be enjoyable cigars. As I said I like the non-Cuban RyJ cigars, but the best RyJ I've ever has was a Cuban RyJ Short Churchill.

They just seem to generate a bad reputation as being a marketing tactic to try and leach off the success of Cuban Brands, which in most cases is untrue.

CC, non CC....ABCD....To be or not to be? :dunno: I just enjoy a good cigar like the next man. Not sure how there marketed, selling tactics etc..etc.? I just know I really enjoyed this cigar. I would like to know if there are any other sticks that are similar in taste. Thanks Fellas.

Oh that Cohiba. I had only smoke the other Cohibas' as they were out of my normal price range. I had never smoked a red dot until I was doing a review for Cigar magazine. It was not too bad. Nothing like the CC counterpart, but what is?

Mmm...I do enjoy the Red Dots. Usually a bit too pricey, but snagged a 5er on CBid a while back for a good price and man those were some delicious smokes. I don't really care if they're Dominican vs CC...they're good and that's all that matters.

While I've never had a CC, I do agree the Red Dots are good smokes - just priced a little too high.

I've only had two myself. The first was alright, but suffered from burn problems (plugging). The second was very good, but was an '05 so that probably spoiled me :grin:. I have one more in the humidor that's awaiting execution. Given my limited CC experience, I can't say with much authority if it's worth the hype...but I can tell you this, when they're on they're on :thumbsup:. That said, I also can say I have had the pleasure of smoking some damn fine NC. So smoke what you like. Does that make sense :dunno:.

I agree. To me, CCs are great smokes, but I also thoroughly enjoy many NCs. To many BOTL, CCs are placed on a pedestal because they view them as high-quality cigars. To the rest, I think they're placed on a pedestal out of desire to have that which one cannot.

In short, like what you smoke and smoke what you like! I'm really glad you enjoyed your first red-dot!

Just stay with the Cohiba line and you will love them. Not a bad stick in the whole tamale. Once you've been down that slope there are so many other ones to go down..wax up your board and have fun.

Of course you have to pay the price for quality, I just rather pay that kind of price for quantity as well. So I'll check out the online market for a 5'er. I appreciate the post fellas, but know one has answered my question? What other sticks could I get that have a similar taste? Thanks again

For me, the NC Cohiba is an over priced substandard cigar. Compared to other NC smokes of the same price, it just does not hold up. I'm glad you enjoyed it, but you are paying for the word Cohiba. And it's playing off the hype of the original Cohiba reputation.

Keep trying other stuff out. Red dots are over-priced. I've found many others that are significantly less expensive and comparable in quality. Personally I wouldn't purchase one, but that's just preference. If you enjoy it and theres no other that you enjoy more, then do you thing. But I'd keep my options opened.

Depends who you ask. Some people refuse to smoke anything other than Cubans because they feel they are superior to all other cigars made. I've been able to try a dozen or so great Cuban cigars, the ones I hear quite a bit of hype about (partagas series d no 4, romeo y julieta short churchill, bolivar petite corona, cohiba maduro, fonseca cosacos, upmann magnum 46). Though they were all excellent cigars, I'm not sure if any would make my top 10 list.

In all fairness I am a maduro fan, and Cubans don't typically come in maduro.

My humble opinion? None of it.

I've smoked hundreds and hundreds of NCs, so I guess I have a little bit of experience with both on which to base my comparison. Never said there aren't scores of great NCs out there, I just prefer Cubans after smoking a lot of each.
