What type of fan do you use in your Wineidor?

Sorry I am asking so many questions about Winedors but I just bought a couple of these Wine Coolers and I want to set it up as nice as possible.

I am looking at different fan options. I have seen everything from fans built into a cigar box and battery powered to the hard wire fans that twenty5 posted here: http://www.botl.org/community/forums/showthread.php?t=35811

I have also seen many folks use Oust fans. How often do you need to change batteries in those? LOL

What do you use?

I've got 2 Oust fans in my Vino 28.....and have been plenty happy w/ that route thus far. Change the batteries every 6-8 weeks or so. Which reminded me to check, and they were due for a change!

When I had a wine cooler drilled a small hole in the back to run a wire to power a small computer fan build in the top cedar shelf facing down. Since RH rises thought that was the best place and direction to place it. That was plugged into a timer with14 daily settings, on for about 5 minutes 7 different times per day. Hardcore now owns that item.

Now only have coolidors with Oust fans, need to change the batteries every 2 months so gets expensive.

How often do you run them?

Are they quiet?
They run on a cycle....if I recall correctly, 5 minutes on, 15 off....and continues that way until new batteries are needed.

And you don't hear em' whatsoever. Damn near have to pick em' up and put em' front of your face to be able to hear that they're on.

I use the top to am old hydra it runs all the time. It is mounted on back wall down at bottom as my rh is higher at the bottom. That was my main concern I would have rh in the high 70s even with 1 1/2 lbs of beads down there and the rh at the top would be 60.

I just bought 2 rechargable energizers at Menards for 10 bucks. I already owned a charger. Should last me 3-400 charges at one charge a month. No more batteries for the oust(s)! Btw the charger was 20 dollars as well if anyone is interested (nimh not nicad much better tech in the recharge batteries).

Oust fans are available here and there on ebay.

Odd that Steve mentioned that RH rises, meaning higher rh at the top of a tll space that at the bottom. Later Plush mentioned having 60 on top 70 on bottom. My thoughts are, where is the source of humidity. I put mine on bottom, but fans on top and and bottom creating a circular flow, front to back top to bottom. down in back, up in front. I notice some fluctuation, but only 1-2%. And I keep the Cubans on top, because it's lower up there. 60% on top, 63on bottom

oh yeah, the green energizers, and a charger are the best thing ever. I bought 50 AA's, 16C's, and 16 D's for $120 on Ebay. I won't buy batteries for 10 years. and I never run out. F'n Ebay

I have a wooden cabinet, 5 cubic feet, I have four Oust fans in it. Two on the very top and two on the bottom. I personally change the batteries about every three months.

Thanks for the headsup Justin, I definately plan on making that investment!

I went the oust fan route on mine. I am thinking about getting another one to put on the top. Mine holds steady at 65 on the bottom and 68 on the top. I have beads spread out with the majority on the bottom and think i may need a second one on top to even the rh out. right now I only have one cedar shelf on the bottom and the stock shelves above that.

RH rises naturally in ambient air. Some of the wine coolers might suck out air from the top/middle or people may have the humidifier on the bottom causing this. I see 2-3% difference one way or the other in a wine cooler. Plush having 10% difference might need to look for a better way to set it up IMO especially if 70% RH on bottom and 60% on top reverse what it should be.

I have two oust fans right now, but plan on getting a cheap laptop fan setup. I have seen one similar to this at TJ Maxx for $10

agreed, that much difference should be corrected, but i think the source of humidity at the bottom gives us a reson for the difference.

Also, as a question, should we put the source of humidity at the bottom because it generally rises.
