So I don't have a trader rating and I don't even have access to the mysterious trading forum. However I bought some of the Ronson Lighters and asked anyone if they would want some.
Several responded and one (okia42) even suggested a trade. 2 Lighters and 3 random stix for a 5 pack of stix. Sounded good to me so I said lets go for it.
A couple observations (from my small 3 person sampling) about people on this forum:
1. They are genuinely nice
2. They get back to you quickly
3. They are generous
4. They are genuinely nice (did I mention this?)
What happened:
So I went to the post office to mail out 10 lighters (8 to other people) and 3 stix. I got to the post office purchased my packaging materials and began to put the boxes together. The lighters arrived to me in not so great shape and I felt a little bad but I guess you cant expect much for cheap lighters. I tested a couple and they worked, but some didnt have much gas. I began to pack my cigars and noticed a rip in the plastic bag. Not good. I decided though that since they were in cello and my humidity was up around 75% for a couple days (dont ask) they could last for a short trip without the bag. If not Ill be happy to replace.
The Lessons:
1. If youre starting a trade with someone checks you PMs every day.
2. You can only send a PM every 2 minutes so if talking to multi parties browse the forums in between.
3. Make sure you have the proper packaging materials to send cigars in. This isnt hard but I managed to fail.
4. Ship the cigars in a hard box. The post office has study little guys that seemed to work great.
5. Use delivery confirmation (I never would have thought of this but okia42 sent his first and told me)
6. Send the DC#s back to your recipient as a sign that your actually in motion
7. Drop a note in if you like (I didnt but I will in the future)
8. Expect the unexpected
For the people I sent lighters too, they just asked home much and where to send it to. Payment was prompt and they were even getting on me to give them information so they could pay. Great transactions on my side.
So I got my package from okia42 and all I can say is holy cats. Pic below. As you can see it was way beyond (9 stix) what I thought was coming and I feel like I shorted him. I plan to make that up after the holidays thought.
All in all its been was a fun experience and waiting to see what came was a lot of fun. I look forward to doing it again in the future.
Thanks to all okia42, diesel, earful
