I work Facilities as a Job and have done quite a few remodels, we all figure out pretty fast what to do ourselves and what to hire out, Sometimes I choose to hire out because I am not that good at a certain thing other like insulation is easy enough but I just hate it.

I pretty much do most things myself if I can handle it, which I usually can. I'll be learning how to tile pretty soon. One thing I don't do.....paint. Hate it, and suck at it.

I do a lot of stuff but anything that screws with the roof is out of bounds. If it's not done right you have leaks and lots of patches and repairs. My condo has a skylight that has been redone 3 times by the "pros"

I definitely recommend having knowledge of the trades involved (roofing).
Sorry to hear about your skylight. It doesn't sound like pros to me than again I have fixed many never one I installed though.

The type your looking at its installs more like a pipe boot than a skylight.

Another if you were closer and my back was stronger, I'm a pretty fair roofer. Oh and I love to paint LOL something about the quiet thinking time when I am painting.

I've done a lot on my house: gutted and remodeled the bathroom and kitchen, new doors & windows, etc. Mostly it's because we bought a fixer-upper, and it would have taken a lot longer to fix it up if we had to pay a contractor to do it, since we couldn't afford to do nearly as much that way. I don't mind doing things myself, and I'm getting fairly good at it, but I'm getting to the point where I'd rather be working on my own wood-working projects (I'm trying to get better at building furniture) rather than hanging drywall and busting my knuckles redoing the plumbing.
