I had been looking forward to Christmas for quite some time. I go down to my Aunt and Uncles and have dinner with them. My uncle smokes so I was looking forward to enjoying a cigar with him. Well a week ago I had a tooth pulled because it was infected. I can't make a sucking motion and probably wont be able to for the next 1-2 weeks. So I missed out on that.

Well I still got to spend time with my Cousins and family... Kind of. About 2 hours after getting there I had a "7 layer bar" my Aunt made. Happens that one of those layers were "Walnuts" and I happen to be allergic to them now? NEVER in my life had I been allergic to anything. My throat swelled up like a balloon and we had to call an ambulance and go to the hospital.

So I missed Christmas dinner and spent 7 hours at the hospital.

Merry Christmas :tongueout

Sorry to hear that, the bad thing about allergies.

I would like to say bad things, but the worst about my Christmas is I am an hour and a half from home with two great presents. Call of Duty Black Ops, and new 125 count humidor, and my typical wheezing from the cat allergy, in-laws have cats. So I am a wheezy kid 90 minutes from home until Tuesday, however this year has been great so I can not really bad mouth anything, I have delt with the cat allergy for years.

At least you were in a good place to realize the allergy, and had access to good care.

Sorry to hear that kid. Hope your New year is a lot better.

Mines been alright I guess. I've had to work the Holidays, which is weird for me since I'm senior enough now in the patrol I can get the holidays off if I want. However, the I'm an Acting Supervisor right now, so I get the short of the stick and have to work when none of the other Supervisors want to. So, I wasn't able to go home and spend it with my family or my girl. My girl might be driving up here tomorrow so that's something to look forward to. Hopefully she leaves the drama back in New Mexico though!

It's been alright though. I organized a potluck dinner for my shift and went it off without a hitch. Plus I managed to find time to smoke an AF Don Carlos, so that was bonus. No major indicents as of yet but the nights still young!!

That blows. :cursing: I found out the hard way that I am now allergic to horses REALLY badly at the wifes christmas party 3 years ago on a sleigh ride...couldn't breathe either by the time we got back. Last christmas eve, I spent in the emergency room for the second day in a row waiting to get in with my mother as she had appendicitis and wasn't diagnosed properly the day before...6 hours waiting both days in the lobby was not cool. This year my grandmother had a stroke last weekend and is in the hospital, so I guess what I am trying to say is; it could always be worse, that's the way I look at things now. I am very glad that even though the last 2 christmas' have been tough, they could always be worse. Think positive ! :santa:

Why not turn that luck around and tell yourself that you were able to spend at least a little time with your family and when you fell ill, your loved ones were the lucky ones to care for you when you truly needed them the most?

Those smokes were probably going through a sick period and would have ashed too early, ruining your Christmas clothes.

Is it possible that you and your family were put through a test by the Lord? Looks like you came through a better person with knowledge you didn't have before. Now you know that the family you love so much also love you enough to set aside their own vacation and spend that time in the hospital making sure you were OK.
You sound like a very lucky guy, with a fantastic family.

Good for you, brother! I'm glad you're OK and hope that mouth heals soon so you can celebrate that good family with an excellent cigar!

Merry Christmas from Down Under! :santa2:

Sorry to hear that various of you had to spend Christmas ill or at work.

At the last minute I was able to pull together a Christmas visit with my folks, and secondarily with my brother, his family and some of their close friends. Christmas dinner last night, served by one of those friends, was a standing rib roast, julienne string beans with almonds, oven-roasted potatos and miniature onions in a horshradish sauce. This was served to a company of 12 invitees, and this close friend also has a daughter who is in cooking school; she made a flourless chocolate torte that was fabulous!.

Tomorrow I'm going to my B&M to pick up 4 boxes of cigars made possible by selling some pipes, which removes the smooth beauties from my rack but doesn't affect my pipe collection as the sizes of the sold were duplicates. Also I got a very nice cash gift which made this possible.

I'm getting:

1. Joya de Nicaragua 1970 Antano Bellicoso
2. San Cristobal Guerroro
3. Tatuaje Cojonu 2006
4. LFD Air Bender

I have 3 desktop humidors, 2 Savoy X-Large and a medium. With the addition of these smokes I'll probably still have 1/4 of the capacity yet to be filled. I've decided that I have plenty of humidor space as keeping up with the 20 or so cigar brands that I have, enjoying all of them, in rotation, gives me plenty of variety and is always a challenge.

If you didn't know the 1970 Antano is 100 Habano Criollo-wrapper, binder and filler. I prefer it to the Antano Dark Corojo as the taste and the body are more intense, and the flavor is rounder, with a touch of sweetness.

Wow, that's nuts bro. Sorry to hear but maybe SuprHasan has a point. What better time to find out that you have a new allergy than when you're not alone stuck in a traffic jam but with loved ones that sprung into action. Make up for it by having a kick ass New Years!!

Just imagine how good that first smoke is going to taste after the long layover. Have You already chosen the great stick that will do the honors?

Hope I don't wake up one day to find I am suddenly allergic to tobacco!
I said to my mother at the hospital "At least I'm not allergic to cigars" and she says "Oh brother...".

:rolling:

Just imagine how disappointed your boyfriend must feel.... :grinFU:
.... I should have seen that coming...

LOL

I can't use straws or anything. Feels like someone is stabbing my gums.

Sorry to hear that. I'm allergic to Brazil nuts. It took me a while to figure it out as I had reactions to them when they were in ccokies. But they were there with other mixed nuts. Then one day at work I was eating some trail mix I bought. All of a sudden like you I felt my lips and throat swelling up. I instantly knew I was having an allergic reaction. My supervisor ran down to the store and got me some benadryl. A few hours later after lying around on the floor I finally felt decent enough to go home. Did a little re-search on Brazil nuts after that and found out they were the 2nd most common nut for allergic reactions after the peanut. Now when ever I'm offered or want to order any food with nuts in it. I always ask if there is Brazils. Was gifted a home made chex mix that contained mixed nuts from a co-worker for a x-mas and couldn't eat it. It sucks but not as bad as having an allergic reacion.
