I received an interesting e-mail last night via FaceBook. A week or so ago, a fellow brother passed on word that a Marine was not getting mail from friends or family while being deployed to Afghanistan. I felt it was my personal duty to fix this problem especially being so close to Christmas. As it turns out, we all were fooled. This was the message to refresh everyones memory:
I have been made aware there is a Marine who has been deployed to Afghanistan for almost 4 months now and has not received a single piece of mail. This is unacceptable. Please put something together for him if you can. If you need tips on what Infantry Marines in Afghanistan need let me know. Thanks for your support. Address is as follows.
LCpl Yernin Bonilla
1/8 C. Co. 1st Platoon
Unit 73215
FPO AE 09510-3215
I received this last night on FB from his loved one Dr. Leslie Wallace Cook:
Hello Steven!
My name is Dr. Leslie Wallace Cook, the girlfriend of LCPl Yernin Bonilla Garcia. I found out through the Internet two messages posted by you regarding my boyfriend with his full address; I was taken aback. What you have heard is a lie; I send weekly letters as well as MOTOMAIL and have sent several packages. In addition, Yernin's Mom sends him packages and he talks with her on the phone fairly regularly. I hate to think that someone is taking advantage of the American people their emotions and generosity by soliciting more when I know that he is amply supplied receiving much and having our full support and love. He has confirmed receipt of our packages by Facebook (for some reason he has not been on since Oct. 30) and by phone. I just wanted to let you know so that no LIE will prevail but only the truth. Thank you for attention to this matter! I hope people write and send stuff but not be motivated by this falsehood. God bless you and your family. Thank you for your heartfelt concern. truly, leslie
I was taken aback from the message and just thought I would pass it along. In addition, I am also giving everyone this information by her request and her permission. On a lighter note, I hope everyone had a safe and joyful holiday. God Bless!
