While washing my hands, I knocked my trusty old Sony Ericsson K800 into the sink (I still use it, but only for the awesome camera - it has a macro setting which is great for photographing closeups of cigars when smoking). I quickly pulled it out of the sink and ripped out the battery, then I thought what I should do to dry it off :scratchhe

I then had an epiphany :jitb:

I remember someone here (Emergency Use of Heartfelt Beads) did the same thing and dried it out using unused HF beads. So I took a tube from the humi and ran the hair drier over it for about 5 minutes. Perfect. White as a snowflake!
Put them back in the tube, threw the tube and wet phone in a ziplock and new I just have to wait overnight (maybe more). Lets see what happens....

Ugh, that sucks man. A while back I knocked my phone off the night table and it fell into a glass of water on the floor. Yeah, I know. Why there was a glass of water on the floor I'll never understand (the wife still denies any part of it, but I don't drink water all that much and I certainly don't put lemons in it), but Murphy's Law being what it is I suppose it was only natural that my phone ended up in it. I bolted out of bed and instantly took it apart. Ran into the kitchen and grabbed some rice and a zip lock bag, all the while cursing like a sailor and my wife going "What's wrong, what's wrong?". The camera hasn't been the same since, but I'm due for an upgrade anyway. Best of luck, hope it turns out okay.

Rice works better than the beads do. It'll absorb more moisture. Take the back and battery off so any internal water can evaporate.

Yeah, bit late for this sort of advice, but if you dunk your gear in water, immediately remove the battery and leave it off until you dry. As for drying, I've had good results with a toaster oven set to the very lowest setting, but I don't know that I'd recommend that approach as a general rule.

As someone that works in the industry for a manufacturer, putting your phone in a toaster oven at any temperature is not a good idea. The heat could cause the liquid crystal in the screen to heat and expand, thereby cracking your screen and causing damage to the toaster oven.

All is good. There's a tiny water mark on the bottom of the screen, but I don't care about that. Everything works just fine. I only use it for the awesome camera anyways

Come to think of it, the rice makes more sense as a grain of ice can absorb so many times it's own weight. More than HF beads of equal weight.
Thanks guys :tiphat:
