Had a cigar rep come through the lounge and talk about some really interesting history about Nicaraguan cigars. He mentioned the Savinelli brand (which I was only familiar as a leader in pipes) has a really good cigar line. He went on to further explain how the Savinelli Special Selection 2005 was the original blend for the Oliva Serie V. I decided to smoke them side by side for a comparison:
Oliva Serie V Double Robusto: Nice construction, even burn and perfect draw.
Savinelli SS 2005: Nice construction, even burn but fairly tight draw.
Overall very similar flavor notes of leather, nutmeg, very light white pepper and hints of vanilla bean. However the Savinelli had distinct pungent floral notes similar to persimmon or maybe even dried hibiscus flowers. Very pleasing and markedly different than the Oliva V.
I like the V line and would highly recommend those that also enjoy this smoke to give the Savinelli a try and share thoughts.
