in a large 18 cigar travel humidor, would you prefer a cutter and lighter to be stored in the lid foam? or in a seperate tray? a seperate tray would eliminate a cigar tray, turning the 18 in to a 12 cigar travel humidor.

what about an adjacent pocket? if it is a leather case, maybe a leather pocket on the bottom or side... I think Andre Garcia has a similar set up (or his humidification device is in an end pocket).

Lid...More room, plus do I want my lighter and cutter in all that humidity? No!
i dont think that storing a lighter or cutter in approx 70% humidity can have any adverse effects. 70% is actually lower than most days down here in FLA

I would prefer not to have it in the case at all. Putting it in the lid foam makes me think it might jostle into my cigars. I like the idea of a pocket attached, or a separate lid on top for a few small accessories.

This is my opinion as well.

Lighter storage on one end/cutter on the other. Of course not affecting the original dimensions inside the unit would be nice.

I carry my lightewr and cutter in my pocket at all times, so I would not need a storage space, now maybe having a second box with the ability to house these items would be great. I could use one when doing road travel, the other would be perfect so I can pack it and stow it when using the airlines.

I would say lid, but I'd be afraid that it would fall out onto my cigars...unless I'm picturing it wrong :dunno:. I actually think some sort of slide out drawer in the lid, but separate from the foam would be cool. Like a secret storage area. Then you wouldn't have to worry about it falling out onto your cigars.

I'd love to see it in the lid, but on the outside (like a hidden compartment) so they don't damage the cigars in case they fall out of the foam on the inside.

Ron,

I have the said 18 ct. I cut out the top foam to hold a hygrometer, a cutter and lighter.

Let's see it, I have the same one. I am afraid it would not hold the items in place and that by closing the lid, the lighter and cutter would press against the smokes.

I normally put My Palio in there but could not find it to take a pic, so I used my Xikar which is wider and sticks out a bit. If you used a cutter that is wide like it you just need to make sure you have a robusto or something similar in size so there is no hitting issue. I have never had them fall out as I cut the wholes smaller than what was going in there. The triangle in the middle is for the humidifier, but I normally use a bead stick.

If cut foam restricts you to a specific lighter or cutter I would go with the tray.
