How to preserve cigars?

CI tends to ship stuff over-humidified so I really wouldn't worry about it.

I've had cigars sit in their original box/packaging up to 2 weeks before I actually got them into a humidor, and they were fine.

Just make sure they stay at a reasonably consistent room temperature, and you should have no problems.

The problem is that he said the room in question is kept at a consistent 75-80 degrees....way too hot, so that's why I suggested some ideas to keep them cooler than that if at all possible.

I'll take the boxes/ziplocks and put them on the floor near the window - They should be around 65-70 there.

Double or triple (or more) bag them and leave it.
If it's going to be more than this Friday, whack it in the fridge (bagged of course).
Turn up the temp in the fridge to the warmest setting.

Get it home and let it rest in the humi for at least a couple of weeks.

This thread is spiraling out of control w good intentions. One ziploc bag or Tupperware per box. Next to a cool closet or window. If no bags or Tupperware just leave em intact in original box. They'll be fine........

Oh yeah the windows should be cooler. That is a good one. Bag the box and leave them by the window.

Okay...What type of floor do you have? And what color is the ceiling painted?

Er... It's a tile-ish floor.. I believe Linoleum.

The ceiling is white

I've got my roommate to agree to leave the window cracked, so the room should sit around 65-70... Also, the UPS shipment was delayed, so it may not get here till Thursday or Friday (slated for delivery about an hour ago until the weather rolled in)

You are definitely over thinking this, just leave them in the box they come in anywhere from 60-75 degrees and they will be fine. Let them rest in your humidor and they will recover from whatever conditions just fine in a couple weeks.
