I've got a 60 qt. igloo cooler that I've been putting cigars in for a couple months and just recently smoked a couple cigars out of it. A Nub habano that someone gave me, a DPG cuban classic, and a 5 vegas miami.

They all tasted exactly the same. A disgusting stale, sour taste is how I could best describe it. No burn problems. It just started happening with these last three and I don't want to smoke anymore until I get it sorted out. All of the cigars are also hard as a rock.

I have two salt tested hygrometers in there and they both read 64%. I tested them separately. Temp is about 65*F.

I have no idea whats wrong. Anyone have any ideas?

edit. oops, didn't see "The Storage" forum until after I'd posted. This probably should have gone there.

Weren't smoking them too fast were you? I did that when I first got into cigars. I was getting the same bitter taste from several sticks because I was puffing too fast.

Edit: your post beat me to it. Doesn't sound like "operator error" to me. Anything get into the coolidor that could be producing the scent?

My guess is your humidity is too high and your salt test needs to be replaced with a boveda test kit. Often when cigars are too humid that sour bitterness is present. Coolidors hold humidity extremely well. What form of humidity are you using? Active passive. Oasis, sponge hf beads?

Also maybe try opening the lid and circulating the air some. Or get your hands on a small Oust fan if you can find one.

I was using a sponge that came with a humidor. I just put some 65% HCM beads in yesterday, so I'm going to give it a week or two and see if that helps.
Try not to over saturate the beads they do really well with less then half clear most the time. If my guess is right they will actually get clearer.
