Hello from Hamilton...

My brother in law just came back from the carribean. I mentioned to him that if he saw some cigars to take a look at the prices and get me something like a five pack of cohiba siglo iv's. I prefer the robustos and corona sizes.
Well he has ADD and brought me back a 5 pack of what appear to be cohiba esplandidos. From checking on the web most of the signs to prove these are legit look to be ok. But there are a few minor deiscrepancies that make me wonder if they are real or not. I took some HD pics with my new macro lens. I should use a tripod, but I think they are ok for now.

The label on the box has cohiba written in the gold leaf... So that is a plus

This label appears legit as well with the raised gold leaf and the raised red letters

The seal is questionable, doesn't appear to be as crisp as it could be, but I could be wrong.

The band looks good, raised gold leaf and 15mm wide, but I wouldn't know a triple cap if it fell from the sky and smacked me in the head

Color looks good, nice even tones, no blotches or discoloration but a few mm short of what an esplandido should measure

The bottom os the box is suspect, because it is not "burned into the wood" or engraved, seems to be painted on, but then agaian it is a 5 pack so not sure if that rule applies or not.

I tried to take a picture of the hologram, but the lighting in my basement sucks, and the flash just ruins it.

So what do you guys think? I'm no expert so any insight is appreciated.

I'm no expert either but, they look like the infamous glass top box. The color of the writing on the 2nd band looks faded and the white squares on the cohiba band are cut off on the top. It just does not look like the high dollar job that I would expect.

Oh well, didn't pay anything for them, so no loss really. What are the chances they are actually cuban tobacco?

Wouldn't you like to know?

Depends where he bought them but would give them less then 50% chance of even Cuban tobacco. I would give them the smell test first then at even the slightest wrong smell I would disect one to make sure they are even tobacco. Many of these fakes use non tobacco items as filler and only worry about the foot and wrapper being tobacco.

Since you know they are fake & they were free, slice one open & see what's inside. If it's actually tobacco, give it a try. Glass top Cohibas are a classic in the Caribbean. I got a box of 10 Esplendidos in St. Lucia. Bargained the guy down to $20. Yeah, I knew they were fake, but a cool addition to the collection.
