Looking at snagging a 2nd generation iTouch for my 4 year old in order to reclaim my iPhone back!

Torn between the size I need. Would an 8 gig be enough for the games a 4 year old would play? We are not talking movies and videos...just game apps.

What say ye?

That shoud be more than plenty. I don't a ton of game apps but I do have 2 pages full of folders with at least 3 to 10 apps per folder.

Does the 2nd generation have a built in microphone for these apps like the Talking Cat?

You should be able to find a small nub microphone which can plug into the headphone jack if you want. Shouldn't cost ya more than like 5 bucks and it'll give your kid the microphone capabilities while still saving money with the second gen iPod touch.

I tried to find apps for my 4 year old and all of them say need 3x or 4x software to run. Have not found many 2x apps. Wish you could filter the apps for the gen of your iTouch..

If you have a 1st gen iPod touch you can use up to iOS3. Gen 2 and above should be able to use iOS 4.. Just update via iTunes.

2nd gen supports mics (like in a headset/earbuds), but does not have one internally (you'd need to pony up for a new one).

I HAVE a brand new 2nd gen 8g, David, if you want it. I make you good deal, friend, I like Americans!

Oh... yeah. It's going to show up to date because the upgrade to 2.0 (and possibly 3.0) require a paid upgrade of like $4.99. Forgot about that with the iPod touches. Though they may not support the upgrade purchases anymore due to the age of the device. May want to check into downloading the iOS upgrade .ipsw files via torrent. Might be able to find them there.

I have a 2nd generation 8g and its going strong. I have it synced with two email accts and mainly use it for pandora while at work while crunching numbers. I also have Facebook and 14 game apps, some are rather large files like Brothers in Arm II. I've also got over 28 hours of music and hundreds of photos....bottem line with all that no problems (but I am close to my maxing out the 8g's).
