PC or Mac Laptop?

As a computer tech, I have fixed both pcs and macs...both die, using the same or similar parts do that. My friend has a mbp 17" original, he replaces his battery once a year, and I just replaced his topcase(touchpad/keyboard) and his bottom pan, luckily I got used parts, otherwise it would have cost over 600 dollars...

I'm just saying, the invincibility of a mac is a fallacy, just like the belief that they don't get virii.

I also have a pentium 3 compaq and a p4 ibm netbook(12 inch screens, no dvd/cd) drive, and both still work great.

So, its how you take care of things.

I agree osx was superior to windows xp and vista, but not to windows 7. I have it on 3 computers at home, and ubuntu linux on another, and can honestly say the last crash I've had was sometime in the beginning of last year.

Its like cigars, some people smoke 20 dollar cigars as the every day smoke, others smoke 10 dollar cigars, and others are fine with 5 dollars. There is a place for all these in our culture.

Get what you can afford or want to afford.

MAC. No question. I have an old iBook that is 7 years old and still works like a charm. I also have a MacBook Pro like the one you are entertaining and I love it. Programs are typically not an issue. All of your productivity software can be had on the Mac. I have had 3 PCs during this time and all of them are crap compared to the Mac. Just my .02. If you want a computer that works all of the time get the Mac. I hate PCs and the slow loads the crashes, etc. Mac never fails me.

Love my PC desktop. But, have a macbook pro for school. I love it. I would suggest it to anyone.

I just installed ubuntu on an old laptop(talkin p3) and amaziingly the new ubuntu is outstanding...got everything including the pcmcia wifi card installed.

Yes, it's a lot better now that it used to be. Had to do the config for my wireless card the old fashioned way when I first installed it.

The reason macs don't get too many virii has nothing to do with a superior os. It has to do with marketshare. If the mac had the majority of the market, it would have virii or spyware.

Either way, or you could get 2-3 pc laptops for the price of that macbook.

or you could run osx on a pc.

I'll grant that the major reason for a Mac's lack of Virii is the market share issue. At the same time, the fact is that they don't, and can therefore be said to be superior in that regard ... reason is irrelevant in the real-world scenarios. (that sounded really douchey, sorry, lol)

I'd also seriously doubt that you can get 3 pcs for the price of a MacBook equally equipped ... though you can probably get two of them right now, lol, at the end of the MB product cycle. And that's the main problem with Apple--the mark-up is too high. I'm happy I made the switch, but I won't try to argue someone else into it if they simply don't have the coin.

I think once Apple finally nails down their "life server" or whatever they call it (all your data available anywhere, anytime and shared on any current Apple computer/iPad/iPod/iPhone), that will be a huge selling point for many people. Of course you can do that sort of thing now, but it's not easy for most people.

That tech has been available for years in business, its called dumb terminal, actually google is working on it currently In the google chrome os, which relies on an internet connection...but what happens when you are off the internet...there's a time and a place for a local area network, not everyone needs or uses a wide area network.

All your apps and info is online, but so is all your info, ready to be hacked.

Steve Jobs checking out what porn you like and what music you stole.

And then selling ads for other things that may interest you.

I'll tell you what, I'm gonna try to put the latest and greatest osx on my new laptop, let's see if I like it.

Funny you say this, back when the Unibody first came out, I got one and it died two weeks later. Of course they returned it for a brand new one on the spot, but still... Nothing nowadays is built to last forever.

Yes, of course there are drawbacks to anything, and living all online is a big security risk. For me personally, a local network is sufficient for most things, though.

thats the reason I still get paper statements, when a credit card company offers paperless statements, I refuse... because well I like sticking it to them as they gotta spend money printing, stuffing and mailing envelopes...they get enough of my money as it is.

Mostly agree. Except Windows XP was superior to OSX, Vista wasn't though.

Mac's are more about the status than functionality. It's "cool" to use a Mac. Yet you have to pay about 3-4 times more for a Macbook with similar specs to a Windows laptop.

My sister has a 15.6" Macbook she paid $2,000.00 for. I paid $900.00 for my 17" HP laptop. It wasn't only half the price of hers but everything about the specs are better. Oh and I bought it a full year earlier.

Oh and by the way. The $250.00 warranty on that Mac is bull.

I ALWAYS use a SquareTrade extended warranty unless the original manufacturer's is cheaper. Which 99/100 it is not. And some policies can be dodgy, but SquareTrade just straight up refunds you the cash for your appliance if it cannot be repaired.

If money is not an issue, get a Mac. I have switched for 6 years now. At first I was really pissed off becuase I could not figure out how to use a Mac. After 6 months I really got into using it. Now I own 6 or 7 Macs between family and work and I have not had any real catastrophic problems. Make sure you buy the extended warranty though and the one to one, which is extremely helpful.

Mac's have no true viruses to date, not that it isn't possible, but it's a bit difficult.

That isn't true. Though it may be a bit more difficult to create a virus for a Mac, they do exist can can practically do anything that a virus on a Windows can do. The only difference is people don't take the time to make viruses for Mac's since they account for under 5% of the operating systems in use.

OS usage basically breaks down into 90% Windows, 5% Linux, 5% Mac. Linux only beats Mac in usage because it is free, which equates to a lot of people in China, India, and other countries with lower income using it.
