Flor De Oliva

I see a lot of people recommending Flor De Oliva as a good cheap smoke, so I would like to order some. But, I need someone to educate me. Which ones have you had the best experiences with? I see the Gold, Maduro, Corojo, etc. Plus several vitolas. Is there a certain one, or few, that are your preference?

I like the Corojo in the robo or toro. Gold is VERY mild, and the maddie is a little bitter for me.

The OR Nic's in Nattie and Maddie aren't a bad bang for the buck either. My local B7& sells them for $3.00 a stick in four sizes, robusto, toro, churchill and torpedo. They come in 20 count bundles.

The original/first Flor de Oliva bundles are 100% Nicaraguan in both a Nattie and Maddie wrapper....that's all I was saying.

I've bought these as "give outs." At gatherings with friends who aren't big into cigars, I'd hand them something like a Flor de Oliva, knowing they wouldn't appreciate a Padron 1926 like you guys on this board. The general consensus was that they loved them.

I've had the Gold series, and found them to be very grassy in taste with a very loose draw. It was unsmokable when it got to be 2-3". But for the money it wasn't too bad.

I don't think these have a sweetened cap. At least the few I've smoked never did. :dunno:

Used to grab the longer Giants on Cigarbid years ago for under $2/per - I think they were like 7/60's or so (maybe even 7.5/60.) They were a mildish corojo, mixed filler and had a slightly sweetened tip -- not nauseating, but a little disconcerting at first.
Used to enjoy them on the golf course, as one would last for about 11-12 holes. I've upped my snob quotient since then, but I wouldn't turn one down if offered.

I thought that the one with a sweetened cap was the lancero violta. I've never run into it on the churchills or Robos.:dunno:

It's applied to the Sumatran wrapped naturals. This from José Oliva at Oliva Cigars: "We use a liquid sweetener mixed into the edible glue used in applying the cap."

I agree. As far as I've known, only the Sumatra has the sweetened cap, the rest don't.

I like the corojo myself. My second favorite is the maduro and the gold is to mild for me.
