Hi everyone, after making sure the humidor was stable I added my cigars and my beads and shut the humidor and kept it closed for 2 days.

I added a total of about 80 cigars to a humidor that claims itll fit up to 100

Today I opened it and the rh is at 72 and the temp is at 70.
Im using 65% rh beads and have to of the discs in there which is more than enough for that size humidor.

Just wondering if this is normal and eventually the rh will even out as the beads absorb moisture or should I leave the humidor open to let some of this out.

Just seems 72% after 2 days is still a bit high for a humidor with 65% rh beads.

thx

First thing, is your hygrometer calibrated? Check it with a boveda pack to make sure its giving you an accurate reading.

I personally would give to more than two days. I use the Shilala HCM Beads and it took several weeks to stabilize my cabinet. A week to ten days should do it in my opinion.

Everything is legit, got 3 different digital hygrometers all calibrated, good to go with everything, just got a tad bit worried bout the high humidity

Yes to what the others said. Also where did your cigars come from before you put them in there? Could add to the cause oh high rh

Grim, when you say you made sure the humidor was stable, what do you mean? How did you season the humidor and how long did that take?

I would keep an eye on the RH (temp is steady, right?) and see what happens. It should settle down pretty quickly. You can also check the beads to see how saturated they are.

Seasoned it with 4 boveda packs made especially for seasoning humidors.

Checked the rh of it and after 7 days it was stable and had no change iin humidity for a couple days and the humidity got up to 74% and stayed there for 2 days.

Since introducing the cigars, from CI, the humidity hasnt changed all that much, like I said, its dropped 2% but thats it.

And yes all hygrometers are digital and calibrated, I just throw the analogs away never had one that worked, and I am using 2 medium sized heartfelt beads humidity disks at 65%rh which is over kill but just wanted the extra for better control and less worry on my part,

Guess ill give it a week or so see how it levels, kept my other cigars at 70% so its not all bad, just figured id go to 65% seeing as spring is almost here and it gets really humid down south so didnt want to risk humidity getting too high.

CI has moist cigars. I'd dry out the beads and let them absorb the excess that the CI sticks are introducing. Or do nothing and let it happen naturally. Nothing wrong with a 72% humidor.

No worries. 72% isn't bad. Besides the R in RH stands for Relative not Exact Humidity. Give it some time and let it settle. If it is still at 72 in a couple weeks then try removing some of the beads. Just experiment with it till you get the Rh you want. Good luck.

Adding cigars can sometimes cause a spike in RH because there is less room inside the humidor, and your humidification agent isn't supplying humidity for an entire empty box. It should settle over the next week or so, and just be happy that your humidor is holding humidity, unlike so many desk tops that are POS.

You're good, Grim. As has been noted, many vendors ship sticks on the "wet" side. You can either let things take their natural course or you can take the beads out, let them dry some and pop them back in so they will suck up more of the moisture a bit quicker. Either way, it's likely to take a bit to get things settled.

Thanks guys, as always everyone has been very helpful.

The humidor is that Old World humidor that is on cigarsinternational.com website.

Its a 100 ct that locks and has "sure seal" technology, dont know if thats just a gimmick but it does seal nice and has an air burp everytime you close it. Much better than that POS I had before I got this one.
