Ok, I have my 2 48qt cooliors and I have my smokes in various boxes for now. My humidity is at 65% and I sometimes find cigars that are to dry. Would I get more even humidity thru out the cigars if I convert from boxes to cedar trays?

I have considered going to several deep trays for a while just wanted a few opinions on it before I go forward.

Thanks!

Is there anything to help stir the air like Oust fans or CPU fan?

What is your RH source?

I have two 70qt coolers and use kitty litter beads in basement. Sometimes I use Oust fans when I have batteries in the house. I also keep almost everything in boxes with lids on tight. Couple loose trays and couple tupperware (no top) for singles. Only my boxes on the bottom seem lower on RH but mostly the entire cigars seem to be fine. With KL beads during winter is about 65% and summer is 67-68%. Wish I had an answer for you. Possibly varnish boxes are slower to accept RH is my only thought.

That could be it, I have some OPUS and Anjeo boxes with varnish and I think they have cigars that seem a little dryer. I will also switch out the boxes and see if that helps too.

Per your other question I have been using the old gel set up from when I switched from foam. I should maybe recalibrate my set up but it has been pretty good so far.

Thanks

If your RH is at 65% with dry feeling cigars maybe your hygrometer needs recalibrating? I have mine at 65% with shilala beads and smokes pretty good. I had them at 62% for a while and it was getting little too dry.

65% should not yield dry cigars......use the Boveda calibration packet, and go from there. The cedar trays are only $10.00, they smell great and I have four of them in my coolidor for my singles so you can always go that route as well.

As others have noted, make sure your hygros are reading correctly. Change their batteries if you haven't done so in a while and recalibrate. Also, you mention you are using the gel humidification stuff (for lack of a better descriptor, lol). Where is it? Is it just one jar in one place or do you have multiple humidification sources? Are you doing the stand-up thing with your coolidors or are they laying down (like they would be if being used as the coolers they are)? Either way, I recommend spreading out your humidification source around your cooler. Beads are definitely easier to do that with. It's not that you can't keep a steady RH with a single humidification source, but it takes longer to adjust for fluctuations with a single source and if there is significant height to your set up, humid air rises which can mean dryer cigars on the bottom of the set-up in some cases.

TheCatch83, where did you get your trays?
