Terrible burn problems- Too much humidity possibly?

I've had terrible burn problems over the past 6 or so months. Sticks that go out seven or eight times through out the smoke. These are sticks that I've had for months, to a year. Many different sticks too; Oliva Serie O/Serie G, Graycliff G2 Turbo, 5 Vegas Cask Strength, DPG CC to name a few.

The problems seam to subside somewhat after the sticks have sat out of the humidor for a few days.

I've had two tubes of Heartfelt 65% beads in my 200 count humidor and I recently took out the second tube in hopes of reducing the humidity somewhat.
I will admit that I normally don't leave 25% of the beads dry like HF suggests.

I've got a digital hygrometer in there as well which has not exceeded 65%.

Could anyone hopefully shed some light on these problems? Thanks

if you don't have dry beads, then they cannot do their job properly... I would suggest drying that extra tube you took out (blow drier) and putting them back in.
If your hygro was not calibrated with a boveda calibration kit, you might as well not have one at all. Salt method is not the way to do it!

High humidity will cause those issues you are having... You need to have some air circulation as well.

cigars at that humidity should not have those issues.
My personal humi is a tad bit drier (63%) and I do not have issues like you describe. Odds are, your hygro is off, and humidity is much higher than you think it is.

Would I be alright to check the hygrometer with a tube of heartfelts in a zip lock? Moneys tight so grabbing a Boveda right now wouldn't be easy.

I looked around here at Target, Walmart, and Meijer and none of them even carried oust products. :/

I had a feeling that those beads being too full might have hurt a little bit..

Thanks

Great offer Danilo! :thumbsup: {editing my statement on cost, never mind}
And to answer your question Clay, NO. I would not trust throwing a hygro in with beads as a calibration method. Theoretically, if you have the correct percentage of clear to white beads and you allow the beads some time (days to a week) to reach equilibrium you should be fine, but there are too many factors at work doing that, IMHO. Boveda is simple and specifically set for the purpose.

As to the Oust fans, they are not readily available in stores anymore, they've been discontinued. You can search on Ebay and find them, but they are not small. I don't know how big your humi is, but they aren't that small either. Air movement is important if we are talking a cabinet sized humidor, but if this is a desktop, I wouldn't worry about it.

Got the Boveda in on Wednesday (thanks again Danilo!) and it's sat in the bag until now. It's a 75.5% pack with the hygrometer resting at 69%.

So, I had my cigars sitting at 71% for about 4 or 5 months. Would that humidity cause that serious of burn issues?

Not generally

having dry and wet beads is necessary for them to work properly. Get some of the beads dried out, and put them in there to see if you can bring the RH down. You may just have a really humidor. The wood may be giving off enough moisture to mess up the sticks.

Either way, ther is nothing wrong with dry boxing the cigar for a couple of days prior to smoking it.

Dry boxing = placing a cigar in an empty cigar box in order to remove some excess moisture from the cigar. Works wonders on draW AND BURN ISSUES.
