Chatting with another botl'r about how much we are enjoying NC. Here in Canada we are lucky to have a pretty consistent access to CC, but we prefer the strength of the NC. Got us to thinking, is there a CC that compares in strength to some NC? Or are the CC about taste?

Personnally, I've had a BHK that was strong, but the creamy, smooth taste overshadowed the strength. Not sure that compares, at least directly anyway.

Thoughts? Opinions?

Strength exists in the CC world for sure. If you look at the Upmann No. 2, PSD4, or even RASS they are on the higher end of the strength scale (IMHO). And who could forget about Bolivars! They are probably the most consistently strong CCs out there.

Bolivar Coronas Extra and Upmann Sir Winston comes to mind. I think you will have a hard time finding a CC that gives the pepper blast of some NC's like Tatuaje though.

not all cuban cigars are full bodied or full strength.

many of them are medium at best.

ERdM Choix supreme is a great example of a mild to medium CC

just because a cigar comes from a specific growing region does not mean that it will be mild, medium, or full. there are many more factors to contend with. whats the wrapper, binder or filler? what kind of age does the tobacco have before it is rolled? what kind of fermentation has it seen? how much ligero, viso, and seco are in it? is it sungrown or shade grown? the list of questions is almost endless.

Try the bolivar beli finos. Also, i had a partagas superpartagas (corona) thatjust about knocked me on my ass. I would say bolivar and partagas are your best bets if you want a powerhouse smoke.

RyJ Cazadores can be mind blowingly strong. I just had one from 05 that just felt like a sledge hammer to the mid section.
Man I gotta get some of these.
So far the Boli is my pic for comparison but I had a Mercer Pinar del Rio that blew me away as far as a taste I felt was both CC and NC.
You probibly should have posted this question in the CC thread.
Any brothers not happy with there Mercer Pinar del Rio's and they are in good shape...hit me up!
Where's Jim...he's the guy that could answer this best I think.

+1 My experience as well.

That said, the quality of tobacco reflected in the richness and depth of flavor is what makes CCs the great and different experience I get from NCs.

There are only a few CCs that I'd apply the word "strong" to.
Bolivar Corona Extra
RyJ Cazadores
Partagas 898v (which I've never had, but others have said It's pretty strong)

Others can be medium-full:
PSP2
Bolivar CG

But none of these compare to the truly full-strength NCs, and of course nowhere near the extra-full NCs. Even a fresh R&J Caz probably doesn't hold a candle to a T110 or even a Padron 45th in terms of strength.

Well, that's a happy coincidence. I have a box of PDS4 on its way from Cuba now. Should be here tomorrow. REALLY looking foward to them now.
I don't know that I would classify the PSD4 as "strong" but it sure is a flavorful cigar. Good choice there!

As others have said, the Bolivars are known for their strength. I feel the RASS is underestimated in it's Kick-A$$ potential.

Still nothing I have tasted in the CC world comes close to the most powerful NCs such as the LFD Double Ligero.
