Tar Build Up

So lately i have been noticing tar build up when i smoke cigars. There doesnt seem to be any cominality except for me. I dont feel i smoke to fast i try abuot a puff a min. the Cigars have been from different stores and different humis.

Trying to see what causes this. I was at the NERF saturday and talked with John and Jeff and showed them since it happened to one of my sticks while i was there and they hadnt seen it before.

Wondering if there is a way to prevent this or just wipe it off or cut a little off and keep smoking.

Do you ever purge the cigar while smoking? Don't think I have ever gotten tar on end of the cigar.

It has happened to me too... No one ever knows what I am talking about. One thing I noticed about it is that it happens on cigars that have a tight draw, esp if it could be easily fixed by clipping a bit more off. Once re-clipped, the draw is what it should be and there is no more "tar"..

I've only had this happen a few times and I smoke a lot. Maybe as 25 noted, the rg has something to do with it and the tightness. Which Tat black? Maybe the freshness of the cigar might have something to do with it and how hard you are drawing on it and how quickly.

Right Plush, almost all the sticks I smoke are several years old. I hardly ever smoke fresh cigars anymore with how little I smoke these days most I have are aged stuff. Purging can help aged or fresh sticks so try that for sure Rasch.

i dont think im drawing to hard. I usually take 2 short puffs and then a longer puff. Ill try Purging the first and then drawing a short and a long see if that helps. Im not sure what tat black is was a torpedo, the foot wasnt clean cut(if that helps) Most of the stuff i smoke have atleast a couple months of age if its in my humi. or its straight off the shelf at the B&M.

I'm not sure what causes this, though based on personal experience, I suspect it has to do with draw method (and what is, I'm sure some additional factors like stated above).

My reasoning is that my wife & I often smoke cigars in the evening & she has the 'tar' experience ('nector of the Gods' lol) WAY more often than me: I've had it happen a handful of times in the past decade, she has it happen a dozen times per year (approx).

I've noticed that she takes long drags more frequently, and I am different in that I take short puffs (1-3 depending on draw) less frequently.

Perhaps this is unrelated (it's certainly possible), but honestly I think that it's the primary cause for her experiencing it as frequent as she does.

As other have suggested, try purging.
I will often find that if I purge, I will get what I feel to be a cleaner, truer essence of the flavors on the draw immediately following a purge. I think this may also help the tar issue.

Not a problem! Purging is when you blow out through the cigar instead of drawing in.

I think it has to do more with not cutting enough on certain vitolas especially pyramids.

That's what I always called it and I had a whole box of Tat Black Tubo's do that to me. I purchased the box in March 2010 at a Tat Event at Drapers. It didn't bother me though.

Nector of the gods just cracks me up - if you get a bit of that on your tongue - it is FOUL!!!

The fix for me has always been to cut a little more off & purge, then smoke it a little slower. Works every time!!!
