Okay, rookie question here, so apologize if this has been addressed elsewhere.

Cigar Rights of America.

By joining this movement, are cigar smokers also fighting for the rights of cigarette smokers?

C'mon - nobody knows? I'm thrilled to see support for cigars, but I would like to know whether or not the proceeds and efforts are also helping the cigarette industry. I can't find anything on the web that confirms or denies this.

As far as I know it is to keep taxes down on cigars and have then not treated like cigarettes. So in that respect no CRA does not help cigarettes. But in the part where CRA is trying to keep the laws off smoking in cigar shops and smoking in cigar bars yes that would follow over to cigarettes as well.

Thanks, that helps a bit. I think the more information we have, the better.

Not sure that it's been talked about on here, but everything I've ever read from CRA has dealt with cigars and protecting the rights of those that smoke them. Would some of their actions lend support to cigarette smokers? In a few cases it probably does being that the two are tobacco products, but that's not what CRA is about and all that I've read seems to be focused on cigars.

CRA was created by cigar smokers to protect cigar smoker rights. Plain and simple. Im a lifetime member and it is worth the investment to allow me the freedom to enjoy a cigar.

The CRA fights for cigars, sometimes those overlap, but the idea is cigars. In addition, someone like JD can explain that it's not just cigars, it's premium cigars, as some of the bigger tobacco companies have other interests and a lot of times (see SCHIP) disagree with the brands we know and love because it's not always in Imperial's best interest.

Bump to remind folks to join. This is an excellent organization created to help protect your rights. My question to you is, if you are not a member, why not?

I wish there was one in Canada, specifically in Ontario. You cant even stand outdoors, and smoke near a building now. Especially if its a Government building; and the taxes... I remember a quote in the news paper sometime ago from a local producer to Toronto. Either Frank Correnti, or the guy who owns House of Horvath, but he said for every quarter he makes the government makes $1.75. Thats disgusting.

I don't like how the organization is run and I feel like there are structural issues at the top that make it inefficient. I give money to the NRA and a few state organizations who I feel use it more effectively.

When I contemplated joining a few months ago, I asked "what has CRA done?" in terms of actual legislation and I couldn't find both online and by asking CRA members, shop owners and reps any specific instance. I believe in TN (or Kentucky) they had some influence recently, but I've heard from a few shop owners that the NRA really has done more.

Despite not giving money to CRA, I still sign every petition and am still an adamant supporter of cigar rights in every state. I just would prefer my money go straight to fighting the fight, rather than to things like iPhone apps and T-Shirts.

If we all felt this way then any new organization would never get off the ground. You have to remember that the CRA is an infant compared to other organizations like the NRA in terms of how long it has been around. We have to start somewhere!

Well, if an organization is not run well enough, perhaps voicing our opinions or becoming involved is an easy way to make change. Afterall, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. As for allowing the government to add more laws and regulations about cigars, its time to stand up. Become involved.
