Senate Bill 575 would ban smoking in all retail tobacco businesses, private clubs, hotel lobbies, bars, taverns, banquet rooms, warehouse facilities, and employee break rooms.

And we don't have former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to protect us now with the power of the veto pen.

Senate Bill 575 is currently awaiting committee assignment by the Senate Committee on Rules. Upon assignment, CRA will let you know which committee will be hearing the bill.

Make no mistake, this is a very real threat to your passion for fine cigars. It not only affects the entire state of California, but sets a horrid precedent for the entire nation.

Senate Bill 575 threatens your freedom to enjoy a cigar at your local retail tobacconist and is a direct threat to the livelihood of professional tobacconists across California -- and could spread across the entire nation.

It is time to draw a line in the sand on this type of legislation, and with California being a benchmark state for such legislation, this prohibitionist style of law making needs a direct and passionate response from all in Cigar Nation.

CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS

1. Please contact your member of the California Assembly and Senate (search by zip code) and tell them to SAY NO to Senate Bill 575.

2. Please sign the below petition. Click here.

ACTION STEPS - NON-CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS:

1. Please sign the below petition. Click here.

The SB 575 bill calls for a tobacco ban on: all retail tobacco businesses, private clubs, hotel lobbies, bars, taverns, banquet rooms, warehouse facilities, and employee break rooms.

The bill is being proposed by two legislators - California State Senator Mark DeSaulniers, D-Walnut Creek, and Assembly Member and Chairman of the Majority Caucus, Jerry Hill, D-San Mateo. This calls for statewide smoking bans that basically are the equivalent of prohibition.

This is serious here - everyone needs to fight this one. It hurts your rights as a Cigar Enthusiast and it will hurt businesses throughout the state (both tobacco and non-tobacco retailers). Please take action and don't let the Pleasure Police win this one.

SMOKING BAN IN TEXAS

Smoking would be banned in bars, restaurants and other indoor public places in Texas, under a bill approved Tuesday the Senate Health and Human Services Committee.

Supporters have been trying to pass a smoking ban for several years, but have run into fierce opposition from bar and restaurant owners.

The bill by Sen. Rodney Ellis, D-Houston, passed 5-3 and now goes to the full Senate for consideration.

Some Texas cities already have some level of smoking ban. Supporters of a statewide ban say restaurant and bar workers are exposed to high levels of second-hand smoke that cause lung cancer, heart disease and other chronic ailments

I just dont understand the logic behind this legislation. Its like banning nudity in a strip club.

Honestly who do they think they are protecting? People who work at b&m's? Why would anyone in their right mind who has a problem with tobacco smoke apply to work at a b&m? Why would you apply to work at a hotel or club that you know allows smoking? This is ridiculous.

Logic has nothing to do with their little witch hunt, and I guarantee they don't care about protecting anyone. How this whole mess got beyond the business owner deciding whether to allow or disallow smoking is beyond me.

That's what you think.....wait till there are beach cops running around making sure you don't spend too much time in the sun. Gotta stop that skin cancer. You know you can't trust parents to put sunscreen on their kids.

(I'm being sarcastic......kind of.)
