Last weekend I was at a tatuaje event at the humidor shoppe in md. Im a huge tatuaje fan and I was looking to buy a box. At Pete Johnson's advice i bought a box of black tubos. I've never had an issue with them, like many others had when comparing them to corona gordas (because I've never smoked one). Ive always thought that the black Tubo was great and better now with over a years worth of age, they have a mint smell and prelight taste now!

Just wondering if anyone has smoked a tat black Tubo recently and what they think about it now after letting it age for a while.

IMO for the last 6 months they have been great. Trick is to keep out of tube for min 30 days and LOW humidity(~60).

I bought a box last year and I've kept them in the cedar wrap but minus the tube, so I agree. Maybe that's the trick. I'm smoking one now and it's awesome!

Yep, they're great now. Last spring Pete said they would be great after about 2 years ... it's been one, and they're definitely coming around!

Funny you post this, I had one last night from a box I got last year (2010) with some glennmorangie sonalta px. It was Very tea like in flavor with a slight earthiness and pepper. Very smooth too, you could straight up retrohale through the nose with no burn.

Haven't smoked one in a while, been letting them sit. I did try a Red Tubo a couple weeks ago and thought it was much tastier then when it first came out!

I smoked one a couple of days ago and I was very impressed with how the complexity is beginning to show itself. The burn line was terrific, put off epic volumes of smoke and all in all, a very pleasant experience that IMHO is destined to get better.

When I first got a box I thought they were OK, so I put the rest of the box in the back to rest. After reading this I think it is time to pull one out for a comparison...

My Dad gave me a bottle for my birthday. In my own opinion, it is the best scotch I have ever had. Flavors of Creme Brulee, toffee, nutmeg, and a killer whiskey finish... I aquired a bottle of Nectar D' Or this week and that stuff is unbelievable!

Good to hear as I got a bunch when they came out. They have been out of the tubes since I got them and are in my Tat black cg jar in my cabinet. Maybe this weekend I will have to check the status on these.

mmmmm, thanks for the "review." Sounds awesome! I actually haven't had the Nectar either, but I love the Lasanta and the Quinta Ruben and just got a bottle of the Astar. I'm hoping to pick up an 18-year, a Sonalta PX, and a Nectar before I head back to Japan ... I think I'll need it, lol.

Yea, there are a lot of other single malts I like (Macallan, Balvenie, Glenlivet, Glenfiddich), but the Glenmorangie has been taking the top spot recently. In the "value" (under $40/750ml) category nothing beats the Original 10-year for me ... but the Balvenie Doublewood is very close. And if I had to pick only one single malt for life right now, it would be the Lasanta.

BTW--sorry for the thread jack everyone ... yay Tat Blacks, lol :glassesgr
