I got a pm from one of our newer brothers, asking for some advice on the proper care of a cutter. Yes, we all know that small pieces of tobacco become caught in cutters, which may or may not affect the performace of a cutter. At first I thought it was a silly question, but then I started wondering who else my have the same question.

Personally, I only use a Palio, and there are many other good cutters out there. They generally all work in the same principle though. Two blades coming together to cut the cap of a cigar. My Palio has been in the pool, the washer, let outside in the rain and it keeps cutting just like the day I bought it.

How I cleam my Palio is simple. I use a small amout of alcohol on the rails and blades of the cutter to remove any residue and tobacco. I also use a little air pressure from my compressor to blow out any other particles that may become trapped. When cleaning the blades, please use caution as they are very sharp!

This same method can be used for any other cutter. I hope this helped answer anyone's question.

Thanks, Bill. I also clean mine periodically with a little rubbing alcohol and that seems to help. Didn't think of the compressed air idea, but that's a good one for sure.

I've just been using the LP cutter I got from Tim in that JD4 contest a while back.

I just leave mine in my pocket and run it thru the washer and dryer. Seriously, I have done this, by accident, probably 5 times. Palios are the bomb

I just ordered a Palio a few minutes ago. Right now I have a Xikar Xi2 and I'm not a big fan of it.

Thanks for the info. I'll be sure to run it through the washer a few time when I get it. :glassesgr

Never cleaned any of my cutters that I can think of. Missing my Palio at the moment as I somehow managed to pull it completely apart (was sticking prior to that) and somehow lost one of the blades. Awaiting a replacement via the excellent CS from Palio (run by a great BOTL).

I have been using my Xi2 for months and it cuts perfect every time. I love the shape and user friendly design and I challenge anyone to find a better cutter for 30 bucks :applause:

Never really thought about cleaning my cutter, but then I use a generic double guillotine I got from my B&M for $5. Had it about a year I guess and still works great.
