I used to buy them at MSRP when I had the chance and thought it was a good deal. Unfortunately, I told a couple of folks about the place and now they sell out before I can get to them. To me, they are worth msrp or $1 - 2 over on some sizes. Love Affair and xXx have been wonderful.

maybe we should start more threads asking if XXX brand is worth the $$ for every manufacturer, lol.
I believe my question is being distorted a tad bit, while the title is "Opus X - Worth the Price" my main inquiry is to whether the high price is due to it being a higher quality smoke or just a limited quantity. You could argue that there is a correlation between the two, which I wont contest, but my main intent is to identify why markups are occurring on certain sites. I'm still feeling out the cigar world, and this is one of my first posts, I won't be following the cookie cutter template that you've layed out for future posts because I will have this experience I can apply when pricing out other brands.

I do appreciate all of the feedback! I am learning lots and am working at becoming a smarter buyer and reading through these posts has taught me a lot.

Thanks!

Certain vitolas are better then others...Stick to the PL, Love Affair, Pussycat, xXx and DR...

Do NOT buy them for over MSRP, there are places that sell them for that (or just keep checking wades, someone has a sampler up for like once a week)...

That of course, is personal opinion... So keep that in mind when you go shopping.

One of the main reasons you see the markup on Opus X on some sites is simply that they aren't authorized Opus X accounts, they can't get Opus cigars from Fuente and so they get their cigars from other shops and end up marking them up.

Authorized Fuente Opus X accounts aren't supposed to sell the cigars at over MSRP (state tax notwithstanding).

I guess if you buy it, they are worth it. I have some like some HTF maduros that I have paid $50 - $75 for. Who knows if I will smoke them. I may just sell them again.

definitely better with age, i've been slowly accumulating PL's, power rangers, and others to age.

according to Mike's price list, my local B&M overcharges by $1-3 :hanghead:

A PL at my B&M is $23....you do the math. At that price, NO not worth it. At MSRP, you bet your ass they are worth it.

Same here!

Good point and not to get off topic but this should be noted when and if someone sells some, not everyone paid the same or is going to sell them at the same $15.

IMHO Ive found that not only is the price spike due to, as was stated, that quite a few places buy boxes and resell them. But on top of that I feel that a bit of the mark up can be attributed to the fact that everyone hears that Opus is the go to cigar. So like Abercrombie, its higher priced for the name.

Wouldn't you like to know?
I love opus. Most sizes and shapes work me at certain times. No cigar is worth the price to every one. It is a personal choice and for some it will work and others it won't. We can list everyones favourite cigar and some one will hate it and think it isn't worth the money.

The Opus X is a very good cigar. The Petit Lancero is one of my favorites. The one thing that I always tell people is your going to spend about $12 or so on the smoke, then your going to smoke it and say why did I spend $12 on this. Smoke it in 1.5 or more years and then you say thats why I spent $12 on this. I also tell people to buy at least two and smoke on now then age one so that you can see how far the cigar comes in 1.5 + years.

i recommend checking out as many B&M's as you can. i know one near me has some on the shelf right now at retail. I'd never pay more than retail, and even at retail its a little tough.
