A question of size

So on another site I frequent(one that isn't cigar related but has an offtopic section) someone posted that they were doing a school project and decided to develop a cigar company. He was looking for input on sizes to offer, listing several to choose from. He was looking for 4 choices, I gave 3 and wrote in a 6x60. I received a little bit of hate for saying that. Which got me to thinking what size do you guys gravitate towards. I enjoy most sizes but seem to gravitate towards toro's and bigger.

So tl;dr, if you are trying a new cigar what size to you pick up first and/or what is your favorite, non-brand specific, size?

Most of what I smoke is under a 52rg. I don't like a much larger rg than that and usually prefer smaller than that.

I feel like this has been brought up before.. *off to search*

I like 'em big and fat. 60 ring gauge is just fine, but I usually end up in the 50's, and 7" is ideal.

6 x 60 is a bit phallic for me. aside from that a bit uncomfortable to hold in the mouth.

I like Lanceros 6.5 -7.5 x 38-42
Corona 5.5-6.5 x 44-48
Robusto 4.5-5 x 48-50

I did a search and only came up with having to do with flavor qualities of the different sizes. That I understand. Spose it could be close to the same topic. If so I apologize.

I don't typically go larger than a Robusto. Largest I'll go is a Toro.

I would name the four sizes for a good start for any company to be, Petite Corona (4.5"x45), Robusto (5"x50), Belicoso (5.5"x52), Toro (6"x50).

Eh, no worries at all. I did one and found one, but it was from wayyy back in '07. Probably no need to bump that one.

Lancero is always my first choice, followed by a corona gorda (5.5 x 46) if available. After that anything between 44-50 ring gauge. I don't really care for torpedos, but would choose that before something 56 ring gauge or larger.

haha, sorry man...definitely didn't mean for that to come off as me hating on you or your opinion. My every-day dialect is pretty rough, sorry if I came off too strong in my opinion.

But yea, it feels a little phallic to me...like what I would IMAGINE something...else...being in my mouth would feel like. I also see smoking a 6x60 as a task...I don't mind the time duration, it's the extra energy to fit my mouth around the thing.

emphasis on imagine, but i know someone will give me hell for this post anyway.

Eh, your fine. I always take everything in stride, specially when dealing with pbn. Like a said, a little bit of hate. ;D And I'm a fairly new cigar smoke so it seems like my palette is changing on a weekly basis.

Ok im gonna ask this question because it needs to be asked: Do you honestly enjoy smoking a 60 rg?

Not trying to bash and not trying to be negative, but i really want to understand why these 6x60 mOnsters are so popular. Is it that they taste more complex to you? Is it just because they make you feel like a badass while holding one? (nothing wrong with that at all.) Im thinking there has to be some sort of adrenaline factor involved with this 60 rg trend.

Here my advice, next time youre at your b&m pick up something like 6x42 or 7x38 lancero and see how enjoyable it is based on the pure smoking experience.

I think that most experienced smokers I know go for <52rg cigars. 60rg is popular with some people for some reason.

I've never been into the bigger rg.

I think maybe some of it comes from how large rg cigars had been sort of romanticized in cartoons/movies/TV shows.. You don't usually see a mob boss sitting around smoking a lancero in a film.. Maybe it does come down to an adrenaline thing or just the feeling of relating with films and such that people grew up seeing.

Dunno, probably talking outta my a$$ for the most part, just a thought.

I just know I don't prefer them is all.
