I stayed on the sidelines for as long as possible and while debating between a new laptop and an iPad, I opted for the latter. My logic was the costlier item first and I could pick up a laptop at Wally World or something around $500.

Now, while I am waiting I am for Apple to ship it I am beginning to have a little buyer's remorse.

So, for those of you who have it what are your thoughts? Is it just a larger version of my iPhone or my son's iTouch? Should I send it back and pick up a laptop?

Help!

First, i wanna say that i LOVE  my ipad (no cameras). that being said, i already have a laptop and desktop, so i didnt NEED an ipad. plus i dont have an iphone/new ipod touch. if i had an iphone/ipod touch AND a laptop, i really dont see the need for an ipad.

If i didnt have either an iphone/ipad touch or a laptop, i would choose laptop. (the main gripe i have about the ipad - still doesnt have usb/sd card slot) Either way, you really cant go wrong.

Hope that helps/makes sense.

The people I know who have it all swore by it when it came out, but now they admit it is a little gimicky. One guy who really bought into it, and subscribes to netflix, books, magazines, newspapers, and comics, uses it all the time. All those subscriptions, with data plans start to add up though. If you have the money to burn, enjoy!

If I had the money, or lack of a wife to tell me I don't have the money, I would already have one.

They have a couple programs you could run on the iPad that will make flash work on there. I just bought my wife an iPad2 because her laptop finally died. She was up in the air with it before I bought it, but now having it in her hands she loves it. I gave her the option of an iPad2 or a MacBook Air and now she wants to keep the iPad.

Her main use for it is just entertainment 95% of the time. I also bought the iPad keyboard dock for it if she wanted to use it for typing or a longer email. It works great with Netflix and I heard Pandora blaring this morning while i was trying to sleep. THe speaker is louder than my alarm clock.

I haven't activated the 3g service yet, because we have wifi at the house. I think it is nice having the 3g version though so you do have the option to turn it on if we want it later.

People always ask how I like the iPad at my house, I always answer "it makes for a really nice drink coaster".

I purchased one for my wife for Christmas and she rarely uses it. It is fun for a while but just not practical, she uses her Macbook Pro and I stick to my PC most of the time. I agree %100 with JNT, if you are not willing to buy all the apps and pay for the subscriptions it really is not worth it.

OK guys, I'm really pissed at myself for taking the plunge. I just saw an ACER 17.3" laptop for $650. I could kick myself. I am sending it back to Apple box unopened when it gets here on Monday.

I forgot the name of the app but allows you to access your desktop or any othe one with permission remotely. With that you can use office, save and attach files to emails, etc which was one of the big draw backs to he iPads.
