I am leaving for the weekend and am worried about temp in my humidor. Right now it hovers between 77 and 80 degrees. I am going to be gone for the weekend and I am going to have my house closed up with the exception of a few cracked windows that I am going to leave open. I am worried that my humidors are going to be sitting unopened for a couple of days with now fan or not a lot of air circulation. it's going to be close to 90 all weekend (florida). I am wondering what I can do to keep the temp down while I am gone.
I was thinking about putting my humi's in a cooler with some gel back on the opposite side.
Is this something i should consider or do i risk doing damage to my smokes and my humis?

Any other suggestions? I leave in about 2-3 hours (Nothing like waiting to the last minute).

Thanks,

Bill

First off, 77-80 is too high! You really run the risk of getting bettles. Secondly, the gel packs I assume are ice packs. In a color your temp will drop dramatically after a few hours of them in there which could also damage your cigars. I would at least take them to a friend/neighbors house if you are worried about leaving them for the weekend.

Yes unfortunately it is the inside temp. I have never had problem with beetles in the past. In a another week or so, the ac will be on which will lower the temp. I may see if I have someone that can watch them.

Thanks everyone for the the help.

If you don't get a wine fridge or temp controlled cabinet then I would just make it a policy to freezer treat all your cigars before they go into your humis. I started that policy about 7 years ago after having 2 out breaks of beetles. Haven't had a problem since.

At 77-80 degrees, it's not a question of if you get cigar beetles, it's a question of when! Technically speaking, cigar beetles can hatch as low as 70 degrees (although unlikely).
