Broke the seal on my BOTL sticks a couple weeks ago to send some out, then let them sit to rest. Opened the box again yesterday to smoke one, and I found a big 'ol nasty beetle hole in a stick on the bottom row! Sonofabitch! I checked the rest of them, and they looked ok, but it did buy the box some freezer-time.

Anyway, just thought I'd let y'all know so you can break the seal and check yours if you haven't yet!

Could happen to any cigar. a bit of sensationalism?
I don't think there is any sensationalism, just someone letting the rest of us know to check our boxes.

I for one am grateful for the post, checked my boxes and both are good.

Thanks, Bill for the post.

That sucks. First I've heard of any attacks on those. If guys want to check their boxes it's up to them. Since you said it was opened a couple weeks earlier I would definitely check the rest of your stash to make sure everything else is in good shape.

Almost every cigar made will have at least 1 beetle egg and thousands of mold spores in them. This is why we spend so much time and care giving our smokes the an environment to live in that prevents them from hatching. The problem here most likely came from a time, during shipping, where the temp exceeded 75*. Good thing you caught it early.

Not trying to be a sensationalist. This is just my first beetle, and on a cigar I love, so it was very upsetting. Yes, I spent a good amount of time checking my entire collection, everything else was in order. The only other problem was the cigar on top of this one had a small hole in the cello, and a small dent in the wrapper, where the beetle burrowed out of the one in the pic.

There is no doubt in my mind this box was the source, but make no mistake: I am not trying to blame anyone or anything like that. I'm guessing it was from the factory, or transit to the US. Just made this thread because so many ppl had these same cigars, I thought it was worth a heads-up.

Stored in a desktop humi. Checked my hygro just now: temps ranged from 65-71. RH ranged from 47-68. 47 was the low, from when the humi was open, of course.

Why it is sensationalism? He posted that a cigar had a beetle hole. True it could happen to any cigar, though!

Glad it only happened to one of them. Take the other cigars and gently thump them while holding the cigar over a white sheet of paper with the foot downward. If you get a bunch of "dust" out of it, the beetle may have jumped in others through the foot.

Sucks when it happens!
