all in all, it's a good problem to have! better than the other way around. at least we know that it's coming, so it's just a patience thing. so much better than telling us you're only making 200 boxes that will only be sold in one place!!!
take your time and make em right!!!

Thanks for the info, Steve! It's great to see a company that isn't trying to sneak something of less than perfect into the market. You guys show over and over again, how to run a great business, and really put customers first. Look forward to all the upcoming stuff. And the rate I smoke, my LP supply in my humi's should last a while... LOL

Wow! Great insight. What a long way Drew Estate has come since I began smoking cigars. I remember liking a La Vieja Habana (or something like that) when I first started smoking, but it seemed like most smokers disdained DE for all their infused cigars. When the Liga stuff was first advertized, some people thought it gimmicky, and/or wondered if anything good could come out of DE. I remembered the 1st LP #9 I had. I hated it. Lucky for me, I had another and couldn't believe how much better that 2nd one was. Now they've become that highly thought of and sought after cigar, and the company still insists on doing things right. Way to go, Drew Estate!

PM sent to podman!

Steve:That is a real class act! I really love that you would not risk the quality by forcing it. And you are right, something as good as your products is well worth the waiting time!

Thanks for the information, Steve. I'm glad you guys take so much pride in your work -- others may have just rushed their release and put out a subpar product for the money. The Liga Privadas are certainly a blend worth waiting for.

The LP Undercrown sounds interesting. If you can share the information right now, what kind of tobaccos make up the filler of the Undercrown? Also, what kind of wrapper is it sporting? Any idea of the pricing?

I love the spice and pepper profile in your cigars so I can't wait to try the new Undercrown.

Hey Steve,
Tell JD to quit messing around with his Uzi project all the time, and get back to making the really good stuff. No way JD can keep up with making the Liga's when he posting videos on Facebook every 3 minutes. Fuggin' attention whore.

Just bustin balls. Don't change what you're doing. It's refreshing to see someone involved in the industry who doesn't take things so serious, and who seems to really be enjoying the whole ride.

Good to know...the Undercrown sounds interesting, any idea when it might be available on the shelf?

Dan
I was lucky enough to sample the Undercrown when I was at the Nica Cigar Fest. It was quite good. Not quite as full as Liga but had a very nice flavor and burned like a champ. As Steve said they are trying to get these ready for the show in July and probably on the shelves a month or two after that. I also was told that they would be a couple bucks less expensive than Liga. Hope that helps.

Nice reply, Steve!

DONT CHANGE THE LP9 BLEND!!! It is the best cigar out there (IMO).

Look forward to trying the new stuff as well.

Here is the skinny:

Regretfully all Liga Privada No. 9 & T52 will always be difficult to find for the foreseeable future. It is a very tough thing to make any cigar consistent when it utilizes 7 different tobaccos from 7 different vegueros.

We have been buying and curing more of all the required tobaccos over the last four years, but demand keeps outpacing us.

And even with cash in hand there is rarely enough "LP Quality" wrapper tobacco to buy.

No. 9s primarily stumbling block is the CT Broadleaf No. 1 Dark capa. 3 years ago the crop was ravaged by hail damage, 2 years ago the crop was great as far as CT Broadleaf goes, but not for No. 1 Darks - almost the entire crop was Mediums & #1/#2 LS - great tobacco, just not what we needed for LP No. 9. This most recent crop is much better for our purposes, but still not enough...

T52s utilize a hybrid Type 52 Seed Habana Sun Grown Stalk Cut leaf that is cultivated exclusively for us. As we have become more familiar with this leaf we have begun to work very closely with our farmers to make it richer in flavor... well the last two crops have been nothing short of glorious, they are so greasy and oily that I get a boner just sorting through the leaf... problem however is it requires longer curing and fermenting times.

Could we make and sell more LPs faster? Only by changing the blends or the fermentation/aging times and while 95%+ of the people would never even notice, we would and we would know they are not as good as they should be, so we wait, which means our customers wait...

This has become a real problem for our sales team as they currently are getting beaten up ever single day by retailers demanding more product.

There is one ray of hope though... we have a new Liga Blend called Undercrown being released this year.

It actually came as a result of the LP shortage in our own factory by the workers. About 18 months ago we told the workers they had to stop smoking all the Liga because they were smoking so many of them they were leaving us so few to sell! So we limited the LP torcedors to 1 a day allowing only the Supervisors and Quality Control to continue their wanton LP smoking... Anyways, in response to this internal rationing the LP buncheros created their own "replacement" blend and were careful to make it utilizing entirely different tobaccos so as to not impact the current LP materials.

Long story short, JD, Nicholas and I were very impressed with this rich medium-full blend that exhibits just a perfect taste of spice and pepper. There is a real creamy undernote that makes it perfect to relax with...

Anyhow, we should be sharing it at the tradeshow...

BR,

Steve

I have never met JD but I have met Steve Saka and he is the man! It really means a lot to your customers when you give a nice response and inform us. I don't think anyone here expected that. Kudos to JD and Steve. Great guys and a great cigar company.

Never met any of the DE crew, but based solely on their online presence, and the product they put out... I'm always impressed.

(gonna fix the JDN Antano Lance though J.D.? ;P )

There are actually other brands out there besides Liga and Tatuaje believe it or not. Not to mention the fact that I enjoy hanging out with fellow brothers and supporting my local b&m. :dunno:
Half the cigars I own, smoke, and buy are Tats.........I'm stationed and live on base near Tokyo Japan........there is no B&M in Japan, and hanging out with brothers! :hanghead:

I am also grateful that you guys are waiting to blend cigars the way they should be, unlike some of your competitors who will change a blend just for the bottom dollar(*cough* Rocky *cough*). I also really like the idea of a less expensive Liga Privada that is a couple bucks cheaper than the others. As much as I love LP, I can't afford to smoke them every week, but a cheaper blend that still focuses on quality blend and tobacco would go a long way to change that.
