MN state tobacco tax is ridiculous (one of the highest in the US)... IMHO Viaje and Tatuaje will help to support those that are in an uncompetitive tobacco retail environment. It is a nice thing TG got both the Zombie and Tat Black PL.

Why would they be 15.50 at the event when by the box each stick was 10.50...that just makes no sense to me?

Minnesota state tax on cigars is 70% of the wholesale price. Tobacco Grove is required to collect that tax on any cigar sold in state. They are not required to collect tax on out-of-state sales, which explains the price difference.

Wow, 70%! I can see why Pete and Andre are helping out the shops with some early releases and or LE's though a few more would sell and help out the shops ;)

Man and I was bitching when the cigar tax went up to 23% in Chitown back in the day! G1

State Illinois Tobacco Tax is only 18%... still sucks, but not as bad as other states.

The good tobacconists in Illinois will only charge the county/state tax on your purchases. Liquor, Cigars, Milk, etc would get sub total at register and total would only be the retail tax. Some tobacconists and/or retailers will pass the 18% to you and the sticker shock of 23-26% tax is crazy.

I think Illinois tax is high, but MN and NY legislatures are trying to put those retailers out of business. I respect the loyal customer base of TB to support their stores.

Must have been combined tobacco and sales tax. For some reason, that number sticks to me. G1

If guys with 6:00 and 6:01 times are getting denied, I would like to know what the time stamps are for the guys that did get them.... Just wondering if they actually are going in order or if they are using a different method.

You know, that crossed my mind yesterday too. I did not say anything because I didn’t want to come across as the sore loser who did not get their cigars.
BUT since you mention it is an interesting observation.

Remember, there were only 20 boxes for sale online, NOT 100...

30 Boxes, according to what people are posting from the email they got over 50 people on those 30 boxes. I think I have counted 20 or more people between the different forums that got denied. Just wondering, I have no horses in this race.

It may have been a good idea, knowing that there were only going to be 20-30 boxes available online, to go with just 5 packs instead of boxes. I know Dan does that when he's getting a small allotment of anything he knows is going to be in demand. I know a lot more work to break boxes up but then again, for each box you could have had 4 people instead of 1 trying out an elusive smoke. That would make 30 boxes go to 120 people with 5 packs. I'm thinking like mentioned above, there was more demand than thought of at the event so possibly the number of boxes available was less.

I saw a post on another forum that said that the order times were taken down to the milliseconds, so you could have checked out at 6:00 but if you were milliseconds slower than guy number 30, you were out of luck. G1

Well, if you think about it...

30 boxes total (per email)

OVER 50 people

Less than 90 secs.

If we spread it out evenly (which wouldn't happen) roughly 1 person (out of 50) every 2 secs.

The boxes would have sold in the first minute.

Now we know that it wasn't even, so probably all 30 boxes sold out immediately, and that's why people with 6:00 and 6:01 didn't make the cut.

No need to think something fishy is going on guys, it just sold out super fast.

Viaje is supposed to do a stick for my local soon, so I'll spend my money there.

Not saying anything is fishy, I was just wondering what the timestamps said for the people that did get them. Everyone who had missed out posted what time they got confirmation, the people that actually got the congrats letters havent posted times. Again, just wondering.

I sometimes think that people take these LEs too seriously...If you (universal you) don't get some of a specific LE, just move on to the next one...**shrug**

The LEs are NOT going away.

Brooks, you are a great guy and love your site and reviews. PERIOD. But whether you pay or get cigars for free, you still have unfettered access. It's easy to say "chill" when you can smoke whatever you want.

Don't misunderstand, I am complete agreement about more info and reviews the better. There's a flip-side, though. That is most LEs are bought off spec or opportunity is lost. I am not devaluing reviews, just saying it's easy to be nonplussed about cigars when they are coming out of your ears. Oh, AND you get to sell what you are tired of smoking or don't like. Win, win, and WINNING. :peace:

Yeah 5 packs probally would have been a better idea if you ask me. Then I may have had a chance to get some.

First, the Zombies I got from the Store, NOT from Viaje, and they were paid for.

Second, I understand what you are saying, but I have missed out on LEs too in the past (I don't get a chance to smoke ALL of them, sadly :rolling:)

There is ALWAYS another release on the horizon...
