So I smoked a Rocky Patel the yesterday, I picked it up the day before. I couldn't stand it, every draw had this weird, sickly-salty taste to it. Does anyone know what might cause this? The rest of the cigars I've had in the humidor taste fine. I don't have a clue about why this happened. Was it something the B&M was doing, perhaps?

Some cigars are saltier than others... Cuban Sancho Panzas are salty.... some salt is good... but an over saltiness isn't.

I steer clear of RP stuff in general because the quality of his leaf is poor and his blends are shotty and poorly contrived. This could be an attributing factor as to why your experience was sub-par.

I've experienced "saltiness" before in cigars, but chalked it up to being a flavor-component rather than an indication that somewhat was wrong.

Amonia releasing...had it before where it tastes like the smell of strong urine...always chalked it up to the amonia releasing when cigar is fresh or a bit in sick stage. Give her some time and try again

too easy...I'll spare you.....
I had a 10 year old HdM about a month or so ago that tasted of salty wood.

...it literally was like a piece of drift wood that was picked out the ocean, and then chewed on. I can't imagine that is a sick period... I would think that salt is simply part of the flavor.

Ery true...might just be the cigar. My reference was from new rolled cigars that I have had. I think too "sick" was a bad statement. More or less still settling after being rolled. But also just my opinion and what I have heard from others...so may just be wrong totally;)

eh... sorry... on a reread my post came off as contradicting your comment... I meant to add that as an "in addition" type comment...

as in... in addition to being fresh and "sick", it could be that the saltiness is a part of the flavor, as evidenced by a 10 yr old cigar...

of course a 10 yr old cigar could still not be at its prime, so who knows?
