How to light a shaggy foot

Hey Brothers,

Being the newbie that I am, I recently (thanks to 38-50) acquired a tatuaje with a shaggy foot and am unsure if there is any special or different lighting methods necessary to smoke it.

Care to share?

+1 Unless you want the whole thing to torch. Not something I'd want to do with a good stick that I don't have a lot of. Saw a video review with guy lighting Viaje Summerfest once; not pretty (he never did it again, either). :bouncetau

The Face had a slightly shaggy foot, and the Black Tubos are shaggier still.

It's nothing like a viaje summerfest or the gurkha black dragons, though... some of those I've seen have inches worth of shag.

I checked out your post about your bomb. Looks like an unfinished foot and not what some make perceive as an actual shaggy foot.

My understanding is as follows:
Shaggy = Filler/Binder extends beyond the wrapper
Closed = Wrapper extends beyond the filler/binder and is typically bunched up around the foot.

I'd be willing to accept these definitions as a standard, but up until now I've heard "shag foot" refer to both configurations.

Yep. As usual.

When I light a closed foot or shaggy I skip the toasting and get right to the puffing, but toasting a closed foot is probably fine as well.
