Smelling Cigar Smoke

So I stop by bdc30's place the other day. Strangely, I didn't stop by to smoke, as I have been fighting a sore throat the past several days, and have been avoiding smoking to give it a rest. Its been a long time since I've been around a buring cigar and not been either smoking it myself, or smoking my own.

It was actually very refreshing to experience. Brent was burning down a PSD4 and it smelled amazing. Very pungent, full of tobacco and leather, very typical Partagas. For whatever reason, it really made me appreciate cigars from a slightly different, and very short lived, perspective.

Funny, Dan Reeve and I were at the Memorial Golf tournament Sunday and a couple times we kind of stopped in our tracks and said "Mmm, that smells good." We had to light up ourselves after the second time that pleasant aroma caught us.

My neighbours will often pop in my garage, and ask what I'm smoking, citing the nice aroma.

The first time visiting a specific b&m in Buffalo I had a little trouble finding it. After parking and going by foot I followed my nose and sure enough found it quicktime.

You know its funny, some people just cringe when they smell a cigar. For some reason, I have always loved their smell even before I became a stogie smoker myself. My wife on the other hand...

When I am at my folk's house, I'll pop outside for a smoke at the end of the night and my mother will come out for about 5 minutes saying things like, "It just reminds me of my father. You and your grandfather would've gotten along so well."

Their is a lot of shitty smelling cigars out there. I dont ever recall smelling good ones growing up. A lot of the ones now are almost like incense though.

I hear from enough of my non-smoking friends, "No way would I smoke, but I love the smell!" Especially the girls. Great by me - get to smoke and not have to give any out to non-appreciaters!

Guess it was nice to experience that side of things. Once.

I grew up around EVERYONE who smoked cigarettes. I never cared for cigarette smoke, but now hate it. The one thing that I remember vividly from when I was a kid was going to my uncles house where he smoked his pipe. That smell was fantastic, and I will never forget it. I had never grown up around anyone that smoked a cigar, so when I did start, it was like a new found pot of gold...now if only the wife didnt detest the smell even after I am done :<

I hear you. What's funny is that I HATE ambiant smoke. I only smoke indoors at events or whatever, and when I'm outside I make sure the smoke is blowing away from me.

But when I walk by someone else who's smoking a cigar ... I want to light one up right away!

this may sound bad but i just cannot resist the smell of someone else smoking a black and mild...i tried them and cant stand them, but something about the ambient smell is just sooo good. a vanilla ish kind of smell

It's funny how when your not smoking your senses seem to be enhanced ten fold. You seem to have the ability to pick up on all the subtle aromas that a cigar has. Even your tastebuds seem to be more keen. I have often found difficulty in trying to discern what flavours and aromas each cigar has and how they differ from one another. However, I know that when I forgo smoking for at least a day I find it easier to make those distinctions.

Love to walk by some place and smell cigar smoke...sadly here it's usually someone with a Black & Mild or something and it tends to upset the nasal receptors more than register as a good smell :dunno:.

Similar story here...the guy that ran the local bank where I grew up was an avid pipe smoker and you could always tell when he'd been in the bank or grocery store as there'd be this lingering aroma. As a kid I loved that smell and as an adult I wish I knew what blend he smoked :laugh:.

There is truth to this. I was eating a blue cheese the other day and it had way more flavor than the last piece I had purchased from the store. The only thing that changed is the fact that I had not smoked for 5 days.
