Is it just me, or does it seem that when lighting up a double corona, the first inch or so is kind of "meh", the next few inches are hit or miss - either pretty good or more "meh", and then the final 4 inches give or take are just flavor bombs.

Maybe it is just the last few DCs I've had, but it really seems that they perform their best when they get down to an almost robusto size.

Is this outta left field or have others noticed this too?

I really think it depends on the stick. I smoke a lot of Illusione cg:4s, which I consider to be DCs, and I'm always blown away by the first inch-and-a-half.

I don't smoke a ton of DC's but I haven't picked up on that pattern. Some start off great, some don't. Some get better, some don't.

I find this to be associated with Punch. The smaller rg are much better. What other DC's are you smoking?

yeah... Punch is indeed one of the more guilty... I've also recently had a HdM (that one was more consistent), Hamlet, and Reynaldo. The Hamlet and Reynaldo weren't so much "meh", but they did seem to really pick up towards the end.

"meh" is probably too kind to the Punch DCs...

I've found that the darker wrapper Punch have been more consistant from start to finish. The best DC to me is the Parti Luci.

07 SLR DCs start well & build into a fantastic cigar as do 08 Lusis. If a DC started full tilt & built, you'd be hard pressed to finish one. That being said, I usually find the other Dcs disappointing.

From http://www.cubancigarwebsite.com/info-production.htm

The full size (Tripa Larga) filler leaves are then gathered, folded, and aligned (to ensure a clear passage) . The leaves are arranged with the lighter flavoured tips at the foot of the cigar. The stronger flavoured slower burning Ligero leaf is placed along the centre of the cigar.

Wouldn't this explain it?

Wow... that site just doesn't end... I didn't even think to look there. Good info... I'll have to take a peek over there and look at other vitolas, like churchills. I haven't noticed this with those, but they are relatively larger cigars.

Know what you mean about the site. I've been through it end to end but there's so much info there's just no way to retain it all!

There may be more to your query than what I posted. Just remembered reading it and thought it might be part of the answer.

I agree with all but the last sentence. I tend to like most DCs as long as that's what I'm in the mood for (in terms of size and development of flavors).

If it's power and in-your-face flavor that you're after, DC is probably not the vitola you should be reaching for.
