I'm curious if anyone has replaced the absorbent foam inside electronic humidifiers like the Humi-Care XG1000 pro with beads? like heartfelt, viper, climmax or KLH conditioned beads...?

And if so, was there any advantages?

yep, do it, the foam sucks. You may need a fine screen to keep the beads seccure.

Edit....I should have read the whole question.... This is more like a cigar oasis, and the super absorbant polymers are better as they hold a crap ton more water.

Beads are always a better humidification medium than the foam. The reason is that they not only release humidity when needed, the also absorb excess humidity. As for the fan aspect...some people use fans with their beads in their coolidor/cabinet/etc. and some don't. I think it mostly depends on how much space you're dealing with and personal preference.

The website doesn't really say how much one would need for a certain amount of space. I just ditched my foam too and am looking for a replacement.

Use Super absorbent polymers instead of beads or foam. They hold a lot of water and won't spill. I've used them for years and they work great.

Www.watersorb.com get large craft size.
Are those the same water crystals I see at craft stores like Michaels and MJ Designs and Hobby Lobby?

they do not give off any fixed rh unless charged with 50/50 solution.

lets clear this up for new guys. if you are using the gel crystals in place of foam in a hydra or cigar oasis, you fill the crystals with distilled water only. your electronic humidifier controls the humidity level.

drymistat tubes and other jar type humidifiers use the gel, and they are charged with 50/50 solution. the pg will keep humidity at about 70% in most circumstances.

Heartfelt beads are a whole different story. why would you fill a hydra cartridge with beads? the beads hold less water than the gel. also, you pay more $ for beads cause they hold a certain rh. your hydra is supposed to control the rh.

:ccowboy: LOL... I guess I'm the one of the new guys :waving: I havn't been that in a while, but ok......

The reason I ask about the beads is I happen to have about 10 pounds of 70% beads, and I'm not impressed with the calibration of the Humi-care (Hydra), can't comment on the oasis as I do not own one.

The beads have always been a solid choice, but I'm a gadget guy and thats why I have the Humi-care xg1000. And FWIW they humidify even when the fans are not running... I'm guessing all the electronic ones do, but again I can only speak on the one I own and have experience with.

So: Only because I have the beads is why I asked the question.

why enclose the beads in a small canister?they need surface area to work properly. if you go though the work of getting the foam out of the hydra, then you might as well put in the gel which will hold the most water.

hey Ron, how about using gel crystals in the accumonitor containers?

you can do that if you are worried about water spilling out of the canister. performance will go down a little bit because air wont be passing by a wet wick, but i have done it, and it does work. just takes a little more time for the humidity to come back up
