How amazing a find is it, to find a sealed box of Partagas, pre 1900's.

I was thinking if I was some multi-millionaire, and won that at an auction or something, what a dilemma that would be. Do you open it, and smoke those sticks? How hard a decision is it to decide when to crack that seal and see whats inside. It could very well be the only intact box of its kind left.

Thanks for the share. Really interesting. I'd be very curious, probably like all of us, to know what these sticks taste like.

Cool story there.

I scored a box of Lord Edwin "After Dinner Cigars" off of ebay. It was advertised as the box only, but if you scrolled down through the add and pictures, there was a pic of the box with the lid open and nine of the ten cigars still inside. The band on the cigars says "Habana" and there is a tax stamp on the box with a date of 1917. One of the cigars is a little busted up but the others are in good shape and they smell strongly of honey. Not sure what I am going to do with them but they are approaching 100 years old if the date on the tax stamp means anything. Tried to do some research on the vitola and manufacturer but was unable to find much info. If any of the BOTL's have any info on these or a source of information on very old cigars I would like to figure out exactly what I purchased and what should be done with them.

It was cheap. Something like $17 after shipping. The seller advertised the box as being circa 1950's and I think they were just an amateur antique dealer of some sort. I have been contemplating repairing the busted up cigar and smoking it, but I am not sure how valuable they might be. For now I am going to keep them as they are.
