I am going to be purchasing 65% HF and have some question that hopefully someone can answer.
My humidor remains at a temperature about 77 to 80 degrees. If I get some 65% beads, do I just need set them up and forget them? Now I would assume that 65%RH at 80 degrees would be different then 65% at say 73 degree. I thought I was told that higher temps could have lower RH and lower temps would require higher RH.
I think I am just having a hard time understanding the concept of RH.
If my humidity is at 65% and 78 degrees, is it just as good as 65% at 73 degrees? I am not sure if I am making sense. I know what I am trying to say just don't think I am saying it right.
Thanks for your input.

Beads are set it and forget it. RH is how much mositure is in the air and the beads will always try to reach a 65% equilibrium. Temp doesnt affect much what does is the ambient RH where you live. let me try to explain as i understand it

So yes hot dry weather will suck the moisture out so your RH will initially drop but the bead will release moisture to compensate.

Hot humid weather would raise the humidity and then the beads would absorb moisture to lower the RH back to 65%

This is how i understand it, I'm no expert so If i'm wrong will someone please correct me.

Don't think so much about it. Get the beads, get a hydro, calibrate it, put 'em in the humidor, and enjoy a cigar. If you want to make yourself really crazy keep trying to understand it. There are numerous threads here along the same lines .

I'm no expert by any means, but if your hygro is reading 65%, you'll be fine.

Your temps are a little high, but don't worry about humidty at temp A vs. temp B.

65% is 65% at any temperature.

Heck, I just switched to kitty litter. Filled up some stockings, sprayed, and have been at 67% ever since.

Thanks guys for the help! I figured I was over analyzing but then again it's better to be safe then sorry. Beads will be purchased tomorrow and the rest will be history.

Thanks again everyone!

Those temps are beetle danger area. I would think you would want to give serious thought to a wine cooler.

Short answer: yes.

Now I would assume that 65%RH at 80 degrees would be different then 65% at say 73 degree.
Much, much longer answer. And really, unless you are interested in the ins and outs of RH, not all that relevant. There are differences, but your cigars, for the most part, won't really care.

The beads are easy, but your temps are wayyyy high. You want to be under 72, and more preferably under 70. I got my beetle the day my humidor hit the 77 range in the freak 90+ days we had in April. Luckily I had just gotten my wine cooler to transfer the rest of my smokes into before more damage was caused.

Those temps are pretty high! I don't know how you live in FL without AC...
My house is 72F after 7pm, and 73F after 12am (when usually no one is home)
My wine cooler, not plugged in stays at 70-72F because of it's location... if it ever got any hotter than that, I would panic!
You need to bring those temps down!

Bill, I posted my first response via my phone, so I couldn't see your location. If you haven't bought beads yet, send me a PM. I might be able to help. Not that I want to take away an order from our brother vendors, but I've got some extra I can part with. Plus, we should definitely get together for a smoke!

Not sure where you stand on freezing your stash but that's what I do in Hawaii. I freeze every single one of my sticks and now they rest in my humi which hovers around 75-85F all year around and no beetles to worry about.
To me the temp don't really matter, I keep my humi at 62-64% and they all smoke great.

Good point. I always forget about freezing. Another perfectly good option.
