Hello! So I was given a sampler of three cigars. I know very little about these kinds of cigars. I was hoping some of you could tell me if they were in fact, real.

I appreciate the help!

Well, the construction on some of them look a little off, especially the Cohiba. I also saw the packaging (3 count cardboard boxes) and some of them had what looked to be two seals one placed over another.

Looks good to me especially when you see a tubos. Also the 2 seals are fairly common on some boxes and cardboard packs.

First, let me say I'm not an expert... but when I went overseas I did some research on the Cohiba... I actually picked up a fake and a real one. The big difference in the band was the raised foil stamped word "Cohiba." The fake was not raised... I'm not sure about the other bands... I was just looking for a Cohiba. There was something else about the number of boxes, but I can't remember. I smoke them and didn't keep the band of the fake... enjoy them.

Fake's have come a LOOOONG WAY. They can counterfeit the bands to be next to perfect in everyway. Honestly, the only real way to tell is to set fire to them....

Unless the band and cigar (assuming they're fake) are just terrible reproductions, you won't know ... I know that's not what you want to hear, but unfortunately it's true.

Bad replica's are just that - Bad replica's. Excellent replica's are (or can be) identical cosmetically - and until you smoke it, and have the palette to tell the difference - you simply won't know.

Now, all that being said, the way bands are attached at the seam is one of the best places to look for potential fakes, especially with cohiba's. Habanos are meticulous, and the ends should mate together perfectly - cohiba is arguably habanos most popular and most profitable brand - not to mention the most recognized globally, and probably the most counterfeit.

Smoke 'em - then you tell us. :peace:

Keep in mind "older" Cohibas did not have raised letters on the band.

I think these are lagit...smoke away!

Thanks for all the help guys. I guess one of the reasons I thought they might not be the real thing was because of the Cohiba. The band doesn't overlap perfectly, it's a little off. Also, I was thinking the construction was going to be pretty much perfect on these. The Cohiba looks a little bit rough, thick veins and a rough looking cap.

I will let them sit for a little bit then smoke them. They will be my first CC's.

Thanks again for the help!

This is what worried me. The band on the Cohiba does not overlap perfectly.

I think we all had this idea of Cohiba being the "perfect cigar" when we first started. I too was very concious of the bands not being striaght or just right. As I found out from brothers on here that really know there stuff, the said that Bands on Cohiba's do have issues. The quality control of third world laborers is far from perfect. So the tabacco of the Cohiba is the for-front and not the band. Fake bands will usually have color issues or letter issues.

I burned a Cohiba siglo II tubo yesterday and had the same little overlap with the band to give me pause on the authenticity. It had a nice triple cap and the tube was in perfect condition, no obvious wear. The cigar was very smooth and well constructed so even if it wasn't an authentic it was a good smoke.
