In Los Angeles, they are shutting down the 405 this weekend. The 405 is one of the busiest freeways in the U.S. It will be shut down July 16 and 17.

This video clearly shows many Angeleno's frustrations

For the life of me, I cannot figure out why they are shutting down the entire thing... At least when San Diego shuts down a freeway it's because a plane crashed into it, or someone thought it would be a good idea to joyride a tank.

There are always other options. They can portable brace the bridge in the center of the freeway and demo one side at a time. That way you can put the movable cement barriers splitting each side into 2 directions of traffic. That way you can still have the highway open, just half the lanes. There is always a better option, apparently they just want the fast method but it will really hurt the civilians trying to drive anywhere but it will save California money.

There is a time crunch to complete the expansion of the 405 freeway and the shut down will save months or at least that is what they are saying. There is a lot more going on than just the bridge.

The Mulholland Bridge, right? Or is it the one near Skirball? Or are those the same bridge? I can't remember, as I haven't really been back to the Valley much since I moved down here in '96.
