so i ordered my edgestar 28 wine cooler around fathers day, as most of you know i am still in afghanistan. i had the cooler delivered to my home in north carolina as my wife would be there to get it. im talking to my wife this morning and she tell me that they opened it up to put it in the lounge last night and the whole front glass is busted out...awesome. so they call up UPS and they said we could file a claim but have no idea how long it would take, so my wife calls compact appliance and they say they cant do anything about it because it was longer than 14 days before we called. so anyone have any ideas?

Yeah this is not the first time this has happened with them. In fact it is fairly common place. Happened to me once and Plush that I know of for sure. There was a thread about it a while back

yeah thats what i was thinking, its only the outer pane that is busted out (the smokey one) the inner clear piece is fine, i talked to her while ago and she said she called CA and there trying to see if they can send out a replacement door instead of replacing the whole unit which is fine with me.

BTW, your drawer order will be there on the 19th. Tried to time it with your getting home, so hope it's not getting there too soon.

The return shipping is on you, so it would not be cost effective to do that.

Same happend to me only all the glass on the door was broken. They don't pack the boxes with anything to cushion it. They took mine back because I called the next day. Hope it works out for you.

I work for a company that ships with UPS alot. Typically as long as the claim is under $1000, it only takes 2 weeks or so to get a claim finished.

Unfortunately, this is not uncommon with CompactAppliance.

I bought an "open box" Edgestar 28, and it was packed so poorly that the door was literally ripped off its hinges when it arrived.

In my case, CompactAppliance gave me a full refund and let me keep the damaged unit. I had Ed at WaxingMoon fabricate a nice wood door in natural cherry. (I'd post a pic, but I've just joined BOTL and can't post links to URLs yet. If you want to read about it, you can google "Wineador Waxing Moon style")

Unfortunately, that's not an option for you, since Ed requires the intact glass from your original door to insert into his wood door.

I have heard of people buying replacement doors from CompactAppliance for $60.

Good luck!

I had one show up from CA that looked like it was dropped off a 10 story building then delivered to me.

CA was very good about immediately refunding my money and telling me to keep the unit. Ordered another one of the open box specials the next time they were available lucked out this time. Now I have a lot of spare parts.

MAKE SURE YOU KEEP THE PELTIER OFF THE SMASHED UP UNIT!

Glad to hear it worked out for you. You CONUS guys are lucky...no place in Hawaii had a thermoelectric unit and every online place either wouldnt ship to me at all or wanted $200 minimum in shipping alone! I ended up buying mine on a trip to San Diego and shipping it myself.
