Back in December I landed 8 T52 Flying Pigs courtesy of thegreekone.

Excitedly, I lit one up immediately. While good, it needed some downtime.

Seven months has made a huge difference. These things are smoking beautifully.

Right into it you get that wonderful blast of spice and pepper. The powerful smoke coats the mouth with flavors of espresso and chocolate; just delicious. It's burning great and the draw is superb.

If you've been sitting on these for awhile, feel free to spark it up right now. You won't be disappointed.

Now I'll have to fight the urge to smoke the rest of them willy-nilly...

You definitely should. Be warned: after smoking it the rest of them will look rather enticing.

In fact, I'm eyeing up a Flying Pig right now... And it's nice outside... Ah hell, I'll smoke another!

I had my first last night. It was good but after clipping it unraveled. It was like there was virtually no pectin.
Fluke. Like any handmade product, the quality will vary from item to item and you may have one that isn't as well constructed here and there. That said I haven't had a badly constructed LP yet, they generally do a very good job.

Love the pigs but haven't smoked one in some time. I'll have to fire one up.

Thanks for the kind words, but I am not surprised by Madaxeman's comment - the heads unravelling on both the LPs after they are clipped is an ongoing battle for us.

Here is the deal: Both the CTBL No. 1 Dark and the Stalk Cut Habano T52 capa we utilize on the two LP blends are EXTREMELY thick and oily. Most sane cigar makers would never use either given its cost or difficulty to work with... for example that single cut of capa used on a #9 Toro is nearly $0.70 in true cost - it is crazy. Anyways...

Because of the thickness and the high oil content, standard preparations of goma do not work, so we have to use a specially blended super-goma which is much more adhesive. The prob comes in that it is still not quite adhesive enough... now we have made even stronger gomas, but the downside is I can begin to sometimes detect an ever so slight vegetable taste as a result, so we had to make a choice: more veggie better adhesion or less veggie with typically good adhesion.

We went with the latter... but this means that on some No. 9 and T52s when you clip them they can begin to unravel at the head. Luckily the solution is very simple - wet the head well right after you clip it and there is zero problem..

This is way too much cigar geek info... lol

And the No 9 pigs are smoking fantastic right now!
Sigh. I'm down to my last No 9 FP. :frown: It's been a while since I smoked one, but it was fantastic.

Fortunately, I got a little stockpile of the T52s when they came out and they're smoking beautifully, though I'm quickly draining my stock.

Great photos, Coyote.

I, too, am draining my stock of T52 Flying Pigs. Thankfully, I have plenty of toros.

Never really liked the T52 pig /that/ much... At least, not since I had a no. 9 pig. The no 9 was so dead-on for my preference, that I can't even smoke a T52 pig without thinking "man, I wish this was a 9."

But they are damn good cigars

I have been pretty lucky and have not had any LP's unravel on me.

I did have one of my LP #9 parejo from November 2007. It was definitely passed it's prime, IMO. Just not much flavor and the flavor I did get was muted. Great construction as it had razor sharp burn.

I am moving on to the LP #9 toro from the CRA Holiday sampler this weekend.

If anyone in the DFW area is wondering Town & Country in Euless still has a few boxes. They were at $12.95 a piece, pretty sure they have a box discount though.

WOW! I haven't seen that many boxes of Flying Pigs anywhere since last November... I am always amazed when I see caches like this and wonder how they survive.

Does the retailer hold them back on purpose? Or are his customers just not big LP fans? I have seen a few retailers in high tax states charging over $20 a single for these and for them to be all gone, so it certainly isn't the price...

Are they all T52s?
