So I went to a local lounge and was enjoying some smoke and talk with one of the guys. I told him that I am planning on buying cigars while over seas and flying them back home. He told me that I would need to get a pressurized case so that the cigars wouldn't blow up in flight....

This is the first time I have heard this, can anyone tell me if there is any truth behind.....

Never heard that before, but some travel humis will pressurize and can be a pain to open.

I've travel with my 15 count travel humi often on a plane and like C. Mac said it's a pain in arse to open after the flight. Sometimes I travel with my savoy 8 count case b/c it's easier to pack.

Going to chicago next week so I'll have both because I'm stoping at tons of shops. :smokingbo

I've flown several times with cigars in an airtight travel humi. Your cigars will not blow up, that's a bunch of crap. If you don't open it in flight and the place you are traveling to is at or near the same sea level as where you took off there will be zero pressure or vacuum in the case. Even if it is way different it will not have an impact on your cigars. Cigars fly all the time from overseas to here and they are not in a pressurized case.

Cigars are not a sealed vessel that would be affected by pressure changes, like say a closed bottle of water. If they were sealed, we would not be able to humidify them in a humidor. :)

If there is one thing I can't stand it's when you go into a B&M and ask a question and either the dude has no idea or makes up some crap. I called a shop that carries Viaje to ask if they had a recent release, first the guy asks me how to spell it, then asks me what the band looks like. Totally unacceptable:shame:. Anyway, I just like most other guys order cigars online. They got to the post office, then on a plane, then the post office, then my doorstep in 2 days. no problems. Sorry to rant but I'm having a bad day at the office.

LOL.. I went to a shop a couple of months ago and asked the guy where are OPUS after I taking a brief look in the humidor. The guy was like uhhhhh i gotta check. We couldn't find them (he knew they had them) so I called my buddy who told me to go by and he told me there were in a separate case by the checkout. This dufus was clueless as to where the OPUSSSSSSSS were. :stickbeat:stickbeat

A couple of things:

1. Your cigars will NOT blow up from the pressure of a plane trip without an explosive device.

2. IF you have your cigars in an airtight container, you MAY have a problem opening said container due to the differences in pressure (and trust me, it is a PAIN to try and open one if you need to...Took me 20 mins and a hunting knife one time)...That is why most travel humidors have a pressure release valve...

If you are going to be traveling with cigars on a plane it is not necessary to have a humidor with a pressure release valve, but i can make life easier...

I agree with the others. I've flown with cigars that were in:

1) Air-tight containers
2) Cedar humidors
3) Ziplock bags
4) A tupperware
5) A Nalgene bottle
6) A full box of cigars tossed in my suitcase

I've never had an issue. I did have to use the release valve on my travel humi once, but nothing has ever blown up.

BTW--nearly every time you order cigars via the internet, they travel on a plane to get to your house. They are usually in cardboard boxes, not pressurized cases!

This is kinda what I figured happened, this guy heard it from a guy that heard that it happened too.... Figured it was total BS, but wanted to make sure before I go over seas and spend the money to fly them back. Kinda funny cause I have a 100$ pelican case just to fly cigars back with me.
